Personally I think that Ricki got so surprised when the All Whites lost against New Caledonia that he thought they were good, and Totori a genius on par with Messi. Unfortunately it was a case of the All Whites playing badly that day. Ricki did not click, and promptly signed Totori as the best new thing since the sliced bread.
My conspiracy theory on this one has always been that to cover his arse after we lost in Honiara Ricki signed Totori to try and show how much the island teams had supposedly stepped up.

You need to remember the person who Totori ran past to score his goals in that game - Tim Myers his team mate at Waitakere (Im guessing its not the first time hes gone past him)
