It's easy to say those things when we were playing well. Tough times this season, no doubt, but i'm sure he'll give his all next season.

The way I read this, the fact that Ernie has gone to the trouble of saying he has a commitment from Roly suggests there may have been some doubt
but, just my reading between the lines
I think you're right. There is always doubt surrounding players like Roly who are far and away the best in the team when the team is playing not-so-great.
