He was happy in Wellington until we had a big earthquake & it caused a tsunami warning. His family were living besides the sea & it spooked them. I can't recall anyone ever saying he thought he was too good for us.
Did not realise how much Europeans hated earthquakes until after that quake. My French flatmate left our apartment and went and slept in his van for two nights in the botanical gardens after that one.
If you've never experienced it before it can be pretty scary. That's kind of why Aucklanders react like they do when there's a small earthquake that a Wellingtonian would be pretty blase about.
Tbf, if there's even an earthquake even a small one in AKL, it might mean that Rangitoto 2.0 is about to rise out of the Waitematā and wreck the whole city
