I think Fenton's play is symptomatic what's going wrong, instead of taking up speed and run into miles of free space on his right side he does his 20th cutback and passes to Rufer who further slows it down with 5 touches instead of the two 2 needed. Nothing Waine did was extra ordinary, but at least he created some urgency and make defenders work.
I thought the same but I think he has clear instructions to be the more defensive FB. McGarry is basically an auxiliary winger (because, well, he can't defend)

Passing out of CM is way, way too slow though.
