0-5 in a derby is a serious blight on his cv, and if he were to go to a new club in a more cut-throat league, this will no doubt be something that can impact him and his credentials.

Not sure I agree.  That is an artificial statistic, based on geographical "proximity" more than anything else.  If this is a metric, no CCM coach should be forgiven for regularly losing against Sydney FC; those two clubs mirroring somewhat the disparity in size and money of WPX and A-FC.
Of the 50+ games to date between CCM and Sydney FC, Sydney won half of those while CCM won 15, the rest being draws.  And that is since the ALM inception, with the ups and downs over all that long time.  How long has our "rivalry" with A-FC been going for?  Five games? Give me a break.
I do not care about a losing streak in derbies but I do care how we play week in and week out against all teams. Italiano will not have a black mark on his CV for losing the derbies, but if he has a second bum season in a row in three years, after an excellent first season, that will create a mark on his CV.
It is actually worse than that:  it will make people like me think that our wins against Brisbane or Adelaide this season were more of a failure by the opposition to win, than our own good performances.   It also suggests that someone like Corica knows how to play against a team coached by Chiefy every time, and that Chiefy has no answers.
If we get a pasting next weekend from the improving Newcastle Jets that would worry me more than losing five derbies over two seasons.  It would worry me as badly as our loss against Macarthur two weeks ago.
