Agree. I might've been his harshest critic on here. IMO his frequent passing the ball into touch, or to the opposition or backwards cost points. Zero pressure back passing making it on to his highlights reel says a lot.
But he was like a protected species here! 'The best thing to come out of NZ this season'. I guess a lot of people on here knew him or the family. Or WERE the family!?

To be fair though, he functioned pretty well at NPL level, which as the Nix and AFC discovered in this year's Australia Cup is not bad!
One problem with overhyping a player is they might come to believe it, instead of making after-soccer plans, ie a career.
Good luck to him. Seems like a super nice guy, which might explain the loyalty coaches showed him.

Ernie might have been a big name coach but refresh my memory didnt he walk early.
Quit because he thought others could do a better job IIRC. Others did, eventually.
Also responsible in part for Ridenton getting to 100 A league appearances.

Merrick wasn't the only coach and we weren't the only club that saw promise in Ridenton

Ernie was great for us. we played excellent football and unearthed some good players. It just fizzled out in the end, like it often does.

Where did Ridenton end up? He reminded me of "The Emperor's New Suit". I was amazed at how many people rated him.
