Today's suggested topic for debate - should NZF be providing funding for the Phoenix when it is clear what they bring to NZF as a whole?  The FFA is happy to fund A-League clubs because it realises how important it is to have a professional league.  Is it hypocritical of NZF not to do the same in NZ?

This argument is moot.  NZF don't have money of that magnitude to spend.  They contribute to Ricki's salary I believe, but that's probably about all they can afford.

Surely the contribution to Ricki's salary is just his renumeration for being National Team Coach?

Or are the NZF paying the Phoenix some type of compensation for the times when Ricki is called upon to perform his duties with the National Team?

Yes to both I believe.
