In the Dom. Good response to the new group and talking to  some concerns expressed

"Mr Morrison said the public feedback since Friday's announcement had been "universally positive". The five-year deal signed by Welnix had given fans absolute certainty about the club's future.

"I think there was a recognition out there that there needs to be some stability for the club ... clearly there have been some distractions, or a lot of distractions around the club, so people's view is that those distractions are gone and they are positive about moving forward."

A board would be appointed consisting of some consortium members as well as some external people that would bring a range of skills that the Welnix seven did not possess.

But any suggestion the group would struggle as they were not passionate football fans missed the point, Mr Morrison said.

"The issue is we're passionate about Wellington and we're passionate about Wellington to the extent that if the Phoenix is part of that then we want it to do well.

"We wouldn't put our names to this unless we were going to ensure that it does do well, we've got too much reputational risk around that. I think that you can be quite comfortable that one will flow into the other."

Mr Morgan said he was in Auckland on Saturday to watch the All Blacks play France and had been surprised at the support the team had outside Wellington.

"They see me and they [the fans] go `Go the Phoenix!' and to hear that in the streets around Eden park, it's pretty cool."

There was a feeling of relief from fans that the team would be staying in the capital and its future was clear, he said."
