Having read the article it all sounds like common sense. what they are actually saying is they won't splash the cash and buy a dream team coz history shows that this rarely works. The example he gives with Melb and Sydney spending big on name players but are crap this year while CCM and the Roar are top without doing the same is correct.
These Welnix guys are smart operators... They have a plan and it has a high probability of working. I especially like the youth development idea. In these financially tough times there is not the cash to spend up large. There are plenty of examples of clubs doing well with a strong youth system. Barcelona is the most famous but just recently Man U were knocked out of the Champions League by Basel...thats right Basel and the Basel team fielded 6 players that had come through their youth academy.
My only worry is that no one else in NZ football will support their vision. Last month the CEO of NZF Kavanagh came out and said it is not the job of NZF to feed players into the Nix...
