WILL NZ FALL IN LOVE WITH PHOENIX?

It’s no secret that FFA are starting to look on Wellington Phoenix as the league’s problem child – David Gallop made clear at the start of the year that the competition couldn’t just carry a Kiwi club as tokenism.

Which may explain the talks that are going on to get Phoenix onto free to air TV in New Zealand, given the appalling ratings on Sky TV over there. The deal would follow the sharing precedent established by Fox Sports and SBS, in the hope of selling the club’s good story on the pitch this season.

Sommet Sports will get the next lot of rights me thinks, they've expressed interest. They were in the running for EPL too, and even beat Sky's top bid. They also outbid Sky and secured the rights for Moto GP. Sky just arent interested. They pay the minimum they can because there hasn't been any market competition, until now...
