Welnix want more than 5 years to have a proper, long term business plan for a new stadium other investments. Those FFA dickheads may think they can kick out the Phoenix in a few years when the found more Aussie teams. The contribution of the Nix to than league is the same than all the other teams, not giving us a longer license is just ridiculous, I can't think of any argument against it.
More like a publicity stunt.
Not a stunt, just proper planning, you cant go to anyone and say we want a build a stadium, but by that time that thing is build your 5 license is up.
Rob Morrison talked about the license extension last night at the Fans' Forum. The term he used was "two way street". He emphasised it is NOT JUST about the FFA getting what they want, the deal has to be what WelNix want too. He said that's why they haven't taken the 5 year deal, yet.
He also talked about a number of factors, including but not limited to, other stakeholders ante-ing up e.g. the council, the stadium, etc.
The overall impression I took from this is that a deal will in all likelihood be done, but that WelNix are working hard to get the right deal, nit just ANY deal. He didn't explicitly comment on whether the Petone proposal was "a stunt" or not. But I think his comments about the stadium, overall, can be interpreted that the Nix are looking to be committed to Westpac, and making the best of it they can.
