For the person that said the A-league is not a very high standard..
I reckon that Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory would be competitive if they were in the Championship. They would probably be in the bottom half of the table, yet still competitive. The standard of the A-league is probably higher than most professional leagues in the world. It's definitely not a bad league in terms of quality of football and support. (Note that there are many professional leagues in the world).
(---------)That is an (unfortunately common) sentiment which has less to do with football and a lot with commercial packaging of sport by media.
Since EPL is a very slick commercial commodity, people around the world tend to see it as an standard-setting level of football. Hence, anything they see domestically is inferior. This is only mitigated in countries where their own league is followed passionately, from South American countries through continental Europe (Germany, France, Croatia, Holland, Spain, Greece, Portugal) but also to some degree in Middle East, South Korea and Japan. People who watch their own league do not necessarily slavishly consider EPL as the only standard (they may for example say that the Bundesliga has better quality, or that the Spanish La Liga is the cat's whiskers).
Even a top class team in HAL would not be able to compete on the same level as a good team from Serie A, from EPL, from La LIga (Spain), from Eredivision (The Netherlands) or the Bundesliga.
However, an A-League game at a higher level (say anything between this season's WSW, Victory, Roar etc) is better than any current game in the Polish Ekstraklasa, the Hungarian first division, the Finnish league, the Slovakian league or such. It is also arguably better than a bottom of the table clash in the Italian 1st division (Serie A) simply because our game is far more fluid - bad games in any league are bad games - involves less cheating, diving and so on.
I can easily cite the example of the very recent Brisbane Roar 0:3 win away to Melbourne Victory as an excellent game that would not be out of place in a decent Western European league, or a top of table clash in Japan (the level of Japanese first division improved astronomically in the last 6 -7 years), or for that matter a top of the table game in the MLS.
