Joel Porter was always going to be kept. We have three strikers at the club, Barker, Mackay and Porter. It was fairly obvious we were going to extend his contract by a year and Porter was aware of his contract when he signed it.
Phoenix have no right to be pissed off at Hartlepool. If you want him, buy him. You won't get a freebie from us.
Porter does have a right to be pissed off. He has a right to be pissed off at the fact that he's been unfairly in and out of the side despite playing well.
As I said I want Porter to be happy but I also want Hartlepool to have either a decent strike force or a transfer fee to replace him.
It's all very easy saying "let him join us for nowt" but if the boot was on the other foot would you let your best striker go for nothing?
No.
You left Porter in the merk about whether you were going to offer him a new contract, hence him looking elsewhere.
You're trying to make a quick buck out of a player that doesn't want to be there. Fact is that we probably wont be paying anything. So you'll be down in wages stuck with a player who wants to be elsewhere. Nice one.
Our best striker doesn't play on the bench.
