Hartlepool fan here,

Firstly let me say that Joel Porter is one of my favourite Hartlepool strikers of all time and I wish him well.

Now that's out of the way.

One thing to point out.

Wellington have NOT contacted the English PFA. This has been confirmed by the PFA themselves.

I would never want a player to stay at the club if he didnt want to.

However, I am against players walking away from their contracts. Hartlepool is run like a business and we need to sell our players and make as much profit as possible in order to reinvest in the team.

The 1 year extension clause is an essential part of the way the club works.

We offer 1 or 2 year contracts with a 1 year extension clause for various reasons but the main one is for our financial security. If we have a player that turns out rubbish and we've offered him a two year contract instead of a one year plus 1 year extension clause then we have to pay that players wages for two years even though we won't play him or we'll have to pay him to leave. Leeds United is a perfect example of why we do this. They had a player called Seth Johnson who was on 40 grand a week. They were in financial trouble and had given the player a long term contract. They could not get rid of him.

If these kind of contracts got rubbished like I believe Wellington are trying then it would have a negative impact on smaller English clubs.

Having said that I hope Porter finds what he wants and if that means he is transferred to you then so be it.
