<Self-edit> Talking more bollocks than usual :-)
<Self-edit>
I'm unconvinced that there are any other formations in modern football, apart from the classic 4-4-2 and 4-3-3
The other formations come from 'variations' of these structures depending on the strengths/weanesses of a team's defenders, midfielders, attackers and even false-9s :-)
If you have an especially mobile defender, midfielder or attacker then other formations fall easily from these classic structures as a player or players freely adapt team tactics by playing in front or behind these classic lines on attack and react to the opposition on defence.
The biggest failing of the Phoenix since our inaugural season, in my opinion, has been the inability to consistently spread the game across the width of the pitch in defence, midfield and attack, whatever formation has been deployed.
