Thousands of people protesting lockdown and vaccinations in Sydney and Melbourne aren't going to help stop the virus in time for the start of the season.
Once the adult populace gets to say 70% vaccination rate, yes people will protest against continued lockdowns, esp if you are in that 70%, and your business is going to the wall. It's time then to start looking to live with this thing. I reckon that will be the situation around Christmas period in Aus, when any further lockdowns would be hugely unpopular. But I'm talking a measured opening up, with continued mask wearing etc etc. Just no more lockdowns.
But until that time most folks will realise lockdowns are a necessary evil. Lockdown compliance by Victorians (who have been through this more than anyone in Aus), last week or so has been high. But as NSW is showing it only takes a misbehaving small minority and poor state Govt leadership to screw things up. Lockdown hard & early, is the proven way to go.
Any future (I'm talking 3-5 months away) lockdown reluctance, is very different to anti vax fools, protesting about getting a jab, this whole Covid thing being a hoax blah blah, or any of the other nut job theories out there. You're anti vax and you get sick, when things do open up long term, your fudgeing problem.
