People are on holiday to enjoy themselves, and the Phoenix are (supposed to be) entertainment. 

There's also less distractions when you're on holiday and reasons not to go, the regional cities are small and accessible and something like the Phoenix coming to town would be a big event, the bars would probably run free buses - in fact the council and local businesses always get right behind this sort of thing. 

You also have the families who are desperate to find things for the kids to do, because after a couple of weeks they've exhausted most options.
