Did a bit of analysis...
Selected 20 players I considered potential top 10 material, then gave them scores out of 10 for each of these categories;
- Longevity of Phoenix career
- Fan Favouritism
- X Factor
- Consistency
- Leadership
- Loyalty
- Personal Success (Johnny Warren medals, A-League Team of the Year, Phoenix annual awards, national team selection/success etc while in the Phoenix)
- Team Success (I roughly graphed the Phoenix' season finishes, and then matched the player's phoenix career span against it, to measure the relative success with them in the side - some players scored surprisingly highly here, e.g. Greenacre played for 3 seasons, and those were 3 of our 4 most successful seasons)
I then added up all the scores, and my top 10 came out like this;
1: Ifill
2: Durante
3: Sigmund
4: Muscat
5: Brown
6: Daniel
7: Greenacre
8: Bertos
9: Lochhead
10: Bonevacia
For the record, the other 10 who didn't make it were: Lia, Burns, Paston, Smeltz, Aloisi, Moss, McGlinchey, Brockie, Riera and Rojas.
Did I miss anyone significant in my 20? A colleague mentioned Felipe, who else could I have scored?
That is pretty awesome, can't see anyone else I would have had in that list. One player I have seen on a few lists on twitter is Jonathan McKain
