Yeah Hooper leaving like a good week before the playoff is interesting. Must have been some chance of his hammy improving over that time, with regular physio.
Even 10-15 mins off the bench at not much above a jog he'd be a goal threat, for his club who are in the finals but struggling to score. Remember Wood's 20 min cameos for AWs against Peru, when he had a dodgy hammy.
Unfortunately sadly just makes it more like Gaza, ain't returning and wants to get himself fit for some trials in the UK. Did he just say, sorry I don't want be here anymore. Guess we'll never know.
Yeah I am probably being bit unfair on him. He did come back and sacrifice 2 weeks of his life in a sharkty hotel quarantine after all, when a number of other visa players refused to return. So apologies Gary.
But a bit did change after his return that would have made staying around less attractive, and also make him far less likely to come back for another season.
Nix went from pre Covid form horses to pretty mud, and now long odds to win 3 games in 8 days.
VIC & NSW had new Covid outbreaks seeing borders closed off to other states. NZ with a new outbreak. All of which makes it highly likely the new season will start with another hub away from family.
The reality of the salary cap reduction would be being discussed amongst the team, plus the fact Nix will generally just have less cash around likely without home games etc. So it would have started to firm up, that he would have to take a pay drop if he wanted come back for another season. He may have even had some early discussions on how much that pay drop could have been with Dome & Co. That would be pretty natural for him to seek some money feedback on what Nix may have offered, when you know the clubs in England the UK are already doing their recruiting for the new season.
All in all I don't think it would take a really bad injury, to make him leave for Blighty. But again kudos to returning downunder, and going through the whole sharkty 2 week quarantine etc.
