Greeny is by far and away my favourite player...

To say he, and he alone, should decide when he retires (from the Nix) however is nonsense.
Would hate to see what you have to say about your least favourite player.

I thought the message was that Greenie would decide for himself when he was ready to retire. Not a bunch of knee-jerk-must-play-like-Barthelona-every-match-otherwise-we-sack-the-coach-and-all-the-players-and-start-again-fans.

Of course Ricki/CEO could make that decision for him (that's their job).

The way the angst goes on in these threads when results don't go our way you'd think we were a gooner forum...
If you treat everyone with the respect they deserve and never insult anyone Timmy will still be your central midfielder in 5 years time

Leo would likely be the other one

Calling him a token coach shows less respect

Actually there is no need for angst - I think you both miss the point which is it is possible for either a player to choose not to re-sign for a club or for a club to choose not to re-sign a player and for those discussions, and announcement of that outcome, to be handled with professionalism and mutual respect.

The club and Greeny will decide, respectively, what is in their best interest and, therefore, whether they wish to offer a contract extension / accept any offer made.

Simple as that.

P.S. The fact I am a big fan of Greeny's doesn't mean that I am not open to the possibility that he may not represent the best use of our reduced (next season) number of import spots - for me that will largely come down to the nationality of the "make a difference" striker we are hopefully going to sign.
