Coach Ricki Herbert said the club would start conversations with Sanchez who is in red-hot goalscoring form and his agent on Monday.
Muscat, who was plucked out of Victorian Premier League obscurity by the Phoenix, has established himself as one of the toughest tacklers in the league, and Herbert hoped he would re-sign within seven days.
"Manny is very close and hopefully we can get some common ground, which I'm anticipating," Herbert said.
"He has [got other offers], he's come from nothing to putting himself in the shop window so that's credit to him, he's done a great job for us.
"Hopefully we can retain his services here."
