With regards to young players, there's obvious issues there. Some of which can probably be attributed to being in NZ and our lack of footballing culture.
What I was getting at was the quality of the players in NZ is generally fairly low given football isn't a popular sport. Kids don't grow up with an aspiration to be an All White, they want to be an All Black as that's popular culture.
With the WeeNix, the quality is poor. I'm not saying every single player will make it to A-league level, but they sit second to bottom of the Handa Prem. One would expect a development team (that often features players from the first team) of the best team in NZ (A-League being a higher level than the Handa Prem) would be in a better position. Obviously they're young and developing, but there aren't many you could say would genuinely be challenging for a place in the first team.
