I've come round to the idea of Tommy Smith. Left foot, a 'Kiwi', hugely experienced, vocal (unlike Wootton) leader and a bit of a scrapper. He got involved in a lot of niggle in the MLS, including with opposition team's fans. If Nix supporters want another niggly Siggy, Manny Muscat type - he'd provide it.

Age and how he'd go in those hot Aussie conditions against him. But the MLS is summer league. He'd need to be cheap, and NZ may just be too far away for his UK raised family. But he may now have few club options, if he wants to try to make WC 2026.
