Whats the benefits of signing him to a pro contract? Not critiquing it but is it a security thing like another team can poach him on a scholarship or get a smaller fee?
Probably just a continuation of this from last year with the collaboration between NZF and FIFA.

Personally I like it and hope he goes from strength to strength. It certainly sounds like he's got a bit to offer as well which is a good start.

We have so far, and will have to continue being proactive with deals like this now that Auckland and South Island United are around. Players - who will still have to work hard in the group and prove themselves of course - have more options in this country than they ever have previously, so the fight for talent is only going to intensify over the coming years.

Slightly off topic here for a minute as well, and whether or not it may be needed in the A-League is a topic for another day, but in the MLS if your youth/reserve team players are called up to the senior squad a certain number of matchdays they are automatically elevated to pro terms. Could be something that has merit down the line perhaps?
