leaving for a team in the same league for a comparable contract is not loyalty, its as mercenary as it gets. Newcastle is not a great adventure. He has the rest of his life to fish.

the Jets arent massive spenders, they surely cant outbid us by that much. Welnix should be able to match it for a massive captain figure like Rufer

If the money is good why wouldn't he go to Newcastle.

They are having a great season, Milligan seems a top coach, and maybe Roofs has just starting to find the scene at the Nix a bit stale after well over 10 years at the same employer.
Maybe he just wants to try something different from the Phoenix it cant be denied he has been loyal. Also for someone who loves fishing Newcastle isnt a bad place to be based and it and its surroundings are a good place to be.

What alot of crap calling him a mercenary. He's been a very loyal Nix servant through thick and thin.

If he wants to go try somewhere new and fresh, all power to him. You ever turned up to the same workplace for 10+ years, and got a bit stale with it?

The Jets presumably outbid the Nix for Devlin and Piscopo. They are likely to be going into their best ever period of transfer fees income, this year. A number of their squad are going to be heading overseas once the ALM season ends.

And like I posted further up, Milligan as a coach probably has a bit of pulling power right now. Even a 29 yr old like Rufer will think they can still develop and improve as a player. I remember Wootton at the Nix, saying even after all his years in the UK he was learning new stuff under defence coach Griffiths.
