Whilst some silverware would be noice, does winning the FFA Cup mean much. Name last 3 winners? Fact Western United also played a virtual 2nd XI says it all.

Real value of a couple of FFA ties for Nix, is playing the kids and squaddies. I'm sure Talay will do same next week against Avondale.

This is first season will be no Weenix playing concurrently in the Handy Prem. Previously having a Handy Prem side for the Nix was great. And considering this season more than any other, some of the Weenix kids are likely to get a taste of A League football, the loss of a summer 2nd team is a big negative.

If they win against Avondale, hopefully Talay plays the kids again against Melb City in quarters. Since the last, round of 16 fixture (Gold Coast Knights verus Melbourne Victory) is not until 22nd December, I presume that potential Melb City QF wouldn't be until sometime January next year. January always a hot toasty time of year in Aus, so will be managing the workload of the first team squad.

And yeah interesting that Van Hattum who has only just come into the squad, got a start ahead of Ott. But Ott is maybe more similar Waine, out & out striker??
