So from my very limited understanding of playing it out from the back, the idea is it enables you to keep the ball. If you hoof it long, there is a lesser chance of that.
Which is why I am incredibly confused on our approach to progressing up the pitch today. We playing it out, find pressure, pass it back and then pump it long….So the end result is the action we are trying to avoid by playing it short.

our primary attack option seems to be to hold the ball at the back and wait for a run from the midfield through the defence.
So far that long killer pass hasnt found the mark.
