Is much of the fever coming up for the game?
Unlikely. Flights were looking about $300 return when they announced Auckland and it's only gone up.

This could be a good measure of how much support an Auckland based side could produce without a lot of Wellingtonians up there. Too expensive right now with airfares and driving up is also expensive.

But only a small % of the crowds at previous Nix games in Auckland, would have been travelling fans from the Welly region. Even with the 2-3 games the last few years at EP that have attracted 20,000 plus, only a few hundred max of the crowd would have travelled up from Wgtn?? The vast majority would have been football fans from Auckland and nearby, just keen to watch some ALM football.

Of course not all the crowds at EP have been 20,000 plus (certainly not last season), but if the attendance in Penrose is small that will be related to factors like -

current tough cost of living even for JAFAs, lack of real star quality with this Nix squad, weather on the day, and maybe just that Eden Park is a more attractive venue for some Aucklanders than Mt Smart. I'm sure those involved with the new Auckland franchise will be watching with interest.
