This happens to all players not just elite females and men also suffer this. After lots of studies from big organisations, they pretty much said that the Fifa11 strengthening routines done 3-4 times per week will help significantly reduce the risk of this. Which was also suggested waay back. It may have been due to accumulated training fatigue, footwear designed for male feet or muscle imbalances between other connected chains. The issue of body image and femininity can also play a part in not wanting to appear muscular even though this is an inevitable consequence of being a high performing athlete. All power to female athletes and hopefully they embrace their power to perform as well as they can. Hopefully she recovers well, and there will be plenty of support from others who have experienced similar issues. Sometimes it’s an issue of technique in terms of body position making it harder than it needs to be. There’s a Tauranga based coach on Instagram Nigel Beach that does work with elite athletes and he looked at plant foot of league players that were stepping and suffered acl injuries and suggested that can be coached out of their game to an extent.

Medical science has *got* to get to grips with the relationship between the menstrual hormonal cycle and weakness in the ACL, or this will keep happening to elite women athletes
