Wellington Phoenix Women Reserves

I caught the Ressies v Onslow/North Wellington U15 at Alex Moore this morning (3-1 to the Nix if I counted right). This is the first mixed game I've been to and I see now what zonknz meant about it being a more physical contest - some good moves on display but there was also a lot of muscling in to win the ball.

Overall I felt the teams were pretty well matched, and the scoreline could've been quite different if it wasn't for some good saves at both ends.

Since this thread has zombied back into life (thanks spambots), I took a look at how the Reserves have been going in the U15 CDL - kinda harsh that they had to default their Sunday game against Onslow/NW due to the KSC, and presumably will have to do the same for their 7 Sep match against Stop Out. I guess the youth leagues don't have much flexibility when it comes to rescheduling?

Oh well, I'll just have to cope with not popping round the corner to Hutt Park to watch them play and seeing them at North Harbour Stadium instead...

End of a minor era for the Ressies today, they played their last(*) game in a Capital Development League. Next up National League starting end of September, then straight into the new-format 2027 NL in March.

The game itself wasn’t one to remember, an 8-2 loss to Greytown U15 boys, although in the team’s defence a bunch of players are away in Poland on international duty and Emma had to draft in a few Academy lads to make up the numbers. But onward and upward!

(*) Last until the various governing bodies re-jig things in a few years, at least

So what happens when the A League clubs have players away at age group tournnies during NL

Good question - in principle it's not just the A-League clubs that could have players called up, so I wonder if NZF will schedule games around international competitions or just expect clubs to deal with it?

Deal with it just like ...
- players going to NZSS this weekend
- The University Clubs dealing with university breaks and players going home for holidays
- clash with Futsal tournaments
- other events such as Labour weekend and the Napier tournament

Smart club admins anticipate and deal with it once the draw is released, either rearranging fixtures or if there is a bye requesting it.   For example I'd expect the 2026 NWL draw will have the 4 Auckland sides playing each Labour Weekend but I bet they don't play over that weekend so they can play Napier as well.

For 2027 the smart play for Nix and Auckland FC would be to note the dates they will be impacted by age group tournaments and request that those weekends are when they play each other, therefore giving them flexibility to rearrange those fixtures.
