As much as I detest social media I’ve grudgingly created a burner Fakebook account to follow the club and supporter groups. Between the crazy amount of online interest from fans in Nepal and the vibe at last night’s home away from home game, I think I’m only now starting to grasp just how huge the “Samba effect” is.

Interesting challenge for the club is how to turn this incredible outreach opportunity into enduring community support for the whole team, not just one player. Samba won’t play for us forever, but judging by the high-fives I was getting from locals just for wearing a Nix shirt we have the chance to build a lasting relationship (I’m pretty sure one gentleman there was a Nepalese diplomat). Time to find a sister club in Nepal, maybe one Samba used to play for? And of course we already have Sir Ed’s legacy to build on.

I’ve decided that if I ever get to visit Nepal (not previously high on my list but getting up there, especially after last night), I’ll definitely check out some local games - and wear my Nix shirt when I go to them.
