Good to see Nix and NZF work out an arrangement on the four Phoenix players.

Touch wood no injuries in Fiji, and pitch(es) are better quality than that mud heap in Samoa.

Huntersworth has joined Billingsley at Santa Barbara as well, so NZF needs to update their records.

Be interesting to see if Rogerson and Myer Bevan end up in the ISPS Handa Premiership, and whether they can make an impact at that level.

Dutch legend Wim Rijsbergen may be staying on to coach the Solomons u-23's in the OFC qualifying this month after coaching the Solomons senior team in the recent Pacific Games..

He took over earlier this year after coming out of coaching retirement.

Was Holland's starting centre-back in the 1974 World Cup Final.

Also played in the 1978 finals.

Definitely one of the biggest names to ever coach in Oceania (including Australia and NZ)

As a player, won the Eredivisie and UEFA Cup with Feyenoord.

And played with Pele at New York Cosmos.

Has coached in the Eredivisie, Chile etc.and Trinidad and Tobago and Indonesia national sides.

Surely there is demand for this game to be seen... or is being treated as a friendly friendly?

A friendly friendly vs Australia. Guess we can expect 3 major injuries then.

Don’t think has been noted elsewhere but Woud, Wilkins and Just have all been pulled out of these Olyroos games now.

Glad it's not being streamed.  A full side playing at a minimum A-League vs a team chock full of Northern Premier League players...

Total speculation but. Declan Edge was going on about his boys should be flying first class for these games, NZF had them in economy. Declan has a point about player welfare, but NZF probably hamstrung by budget.

Looks like NZF and and Declan couldn't come to an agreement and the boys didn't travel. Shame. Wilkins isn't getting any game time and Just the odd cameo off the bench at Helsingor.

What's wrong with the fire exit row? Surely Just's small frame would get enough leg room there. Would admittedly less so.

Not a problem for FFA I guess, only Gersbach in the Olyroos has flown in from overseas.

don't think its the seat, more like the 20-30 hours traveling each way. I've done NZ - London direct a couple of times and I know I wouldn't want to get off play a game of football and then do the same trip a couple of days later

and for a effectively meaningless game I can see Declan's point

Was at the match - must say was very impressed with how the team set up to play. My mates (Aussie fans) agreed that NZ were the better team, creating the better chances.

First 20 mins was all NZ, Aus struggled to get out of their half. Middle of the game was all Australia. Before NZ finished the last 30 far better.

First half we lined up a 4-4-2, but with the two wingers very high often becoming a 4-2-4. The front 4 were all strikers with Bevan and Billingsley in the middle, supported by Mata on the left and Rogerson on the right. These 4 seemed to get in each others way in the final third.

Second half after De Jong came one was  a 4-2-3-1 (with Bevan at the point, Mata on the left and Rogerson on the right). I thought we looked much better overall with this shape.

Our best on park was Mcgarry for me- controlled everything and a class above the rest. I was shocked to see him subbed so early.

Our weakest was probably the RB - Australia seemed to notice and continually targeted this side. Was the first to be subbed

Logan Rogerson would be a very class player if he could pass - lost the ball a dissapointing amount of times.

GK looked very shaky first half, sending every GK out and spilling most of his catches - was better in the second.

Midfield 3 looked very good with De Jong as 6, Stensess as 8 and Lewis as 10.

Thanks for the report. You sure de Jong came on as 6? He plays left sided LB or winger and on the grainy footage it was not him in the sub 6 role.

Thought Lewis strike to score was superb! That 4/4/2 did look unusual for them and the changes seemed to show a better formation, more like previous Des's sided have played.

View from Aussie side. It seems they were expected to crush unfancied NZ and are really disappointed in the match and their performance. Come on boys lets stick it to them and win the second game!

Impressive result but with virtually none of their young players from Europe, more likely they had a 3rd string team on the pitch.

Sarcasm Andrew. Esp in light of rumours they flew in Euro based players in economy.

To be fair responsibility of hosts FFA really to provide coverage.

I think both teams are missing a fair amount of players who would slot straight into the starting team. This just goes to show the depth we are building, especially when you consider that the Aussie side is made up A League professionals, not simply local league players and we did alright.

Which team is missing the most/more influential players I don't know.

We were missing - Singh, McCowatt, Carcace, Just, Pnjanker, Woud, Wilkins, Ingham and Bell. Out of those 6 or 7 would be near cert starters and a good step up on what we had playing last night.

Lets not diminish and down play our results... in 11 previous games we have won once and drawn once. We are on the improve as a nation, we need to buy into that and should celebrate it.

Dead right. Though of the NZ starting eleven only GK Brown was a domestic NZ based player.

Result should be celebrated but more so because sounds like they went toe to toe, and Buckingham basically started game with 4 strikers.

Hopefully FFA take note, and look at more NZ v Aus mens games, at least at an underage level.
