Congratulations Julyan.  Is this the same Julyan?

No wonder his football career went downhill (too much of the jet set lifestyle)....

Though he is only 31, hasn't played national league since the 2017 - 18 season.

He had an interesting transfer history between Canterbury Utd and Waitakere Utd:

Seems he could never make his mind up who to play for - tranfered three times in three years between the two sides:

Canty Utd > Waitak > Canty Utd > Waitak

Here you go Vim:

Table shows Dragon's worst season(s) 2007-08 and 2008-09 and our best - 2011-12 and then this season.

As the various seasons have different number of games have also added the average of Goals - For and Against and Points per game and finally the percentage of total possible points gained, as I believe this are better stats when comparing results over several seasons.

So overall not our worst - but almost.

If we had not secured a draw in added time against the Wee Nixs on Sunday, then points wise (per game) it would have been our worst.

Six of our defeats were by a single goal but on flip side we lead in seven of the games, only to end up drawing two and losing the other five.

Per Game
  P W D L F A +/- Pts F A Pts Points Position
2007-08 21 3 3 15 22 48 -26 12 1.05 2.29 0.57 19.05% 8th out of 8
2008-09 14 2 2 10 11 32 -21 8 0.79 2.29 0.57 19.05% 8th out of 8

NZ Football media release on the National League 2020/21 season:

National football and futsal leagues back for 2020/21 season

Copyright Photo: Shane Wenzlick

New Zealand Football have today confirmed the details of the upcoming 2020/2021 national men’s and women’s football and futsal competitions.

The ISPS Handa Premiership will return from mid-November 2020, marking the 17th year of the men’s national league in its current format. The National Women’s League will start in late October 2020. The Men’s Futsal SuperLeague and Women’s Futsal SuperLeague will start in late October 2020 and February 2021 respectively.

NZF General Manager of Football Daniel Farrow said:

“It has taken a lot of work with our clubs and federations to get to this stage but we are excited to now be able to confirm initial details of our national competitions for the upcoming season.

“While Covid-19 and the knock-on effect of shifting community football dates has had an impact on the length of competitions and, in the case of the ISPS Handa Premiership, the number of teams able to take part, running men’s, women’s and futsal national league competitions this year was a key priority and we are very pleased to be able to make that happen.

“We also want to acknowledge the support of Sport NZ and our on-going partnership with Trillian Trust as key contributors to staging competitions this season.”

The ISPS Handa Premiership will consist of a double round robin league, followed by a semi-final and grand final. The 14 round season will run from mid-November 2020 with the grand final scheduled for late March 2021. Exact dates for the competition will be released after the international football calendar is confirmed.

For this season, Tasman United and Southern United will join with Canterbury United Dragons to form a united South Island team, under the Canterbury United Dragons banner. The team will play home games in Christchurch, Dunedin and Nelson. Reigning champions Auckland City FC, Waitakere United, Eastern Suburbs, Hamilton Wanderers, Hawke’s Bay United, Team Wellington and Wellington Phoenix FC will make up the remaining clubs in the eight-team competition.

The 2020/2021 league season was scheduled to see the introduction of a promotion and relegation framework under the ‘National League Moving Forward’ competitions review released in November 2019, however, following the impact of Covid-19, these plans have been postponed and will be reviewed ahead of the 2021/2022 campaign.

Paula Walker, Chair of National League (Mens) Stakeholder Group said:

“All our clubs are excited to be kicking off in November considering earlier in the year we didn’t know what the world would look like, the impact on all levels of the game, and, what the national league season would be.

“We want to thank all the sponsors and communities who have supported the clubs during this time and encourage fans to get out there to back their team when the league returns.

“We also want to acknowledge the contribution that the players, coaches and staff at Tasman United and Southern United have made to the competition. I’m sure it was a difficult decision for them not to take part this year but sustainability of football in this country in the long term has to be the priority. I look forward to seeing them again in future seasons.”

The National Women’s League will, following consultation and feedback from stakeholders including players, federations and clubs, consist of a single round robin followed by a grand final on the weekend of 19 December. The season will run from the weekend of 31 October and feature teams representing each of the seven football federations: Northern Lights, Auckland, WaiBoP, Central, Capital, reigning champions Canterbury United Pride and Southern United.

The Men’s Futsal SuperLeague will run 31 October – 22 November across three weekends: Southern Travel Series in Wellington, Northern Travel Series in Hamilton and the National Series in Auckland. The competition will feature eight teams from across the seven football federations: AAF Futsal, Bay of Plenty Surge, Canterbury United Futsal Dragons, Capital Futsal, Central Futsal, Northern Comets, Southern United Futsal and 2019/2020 champions Waikato Rapids.

The Women’s Futsal SuperLeague will run from February 2021 featuring teams from across the seven football federations.

Further details on all competitions will be released in due course

I wonder if the Dragons will pick up any other Southern Utd or Tasman players now those franchises are defunct?

Sounds like we will only get at the most five regular season home games at English Park this summer with the Dragons now a South Island rep team and games being taken to Dunedin and Nelson...

Considering that, and that the Pride are back to only one round of matches in their league, hope this summer that the season tickets will be super cheap!

I am surprised there was no push from the South or Tasman region for a game.  I would say their $ contribution must be very low if anything.  Just a token representation and box ticking exercise for NZ Football. I am happy for all home games to be at English Park though.  Roadies can be very dangerous and injurious to health!

Where do we find information about the dragons this year?  ie early season games the team etc or are they just following the same dire formula of informing everyone poorly as previous years?

Thanks Andrew where do you find this information?  It is almost a prerequisite for anything involved with NZ football at most levels to leave stakeholders and fans without knowledge in something they are paying for and expect them to support in the long term even though they can't get even the short term right.

have you looked on their facebook page? They've been producing videos announcing returning and new players for both the men's and women's teams, seem to be doing a decent job, not a lot of other teams have got that far yet

Yes I have it just seems to be videos in a piecemeal manner showing the Pride and Dragons together.  Why not just a team announcement along with notification of any friendly games etc.  Videos are great but should be followed up with what they specifically are about or announce.

Apparently every men's & women's national League match is going to be broadcast live - so aside from the odd one (1 a week I think?) on Sky Sport 7, all others will be broadcast live & on demand on the Sky Sport Next YouTube channel. Which is pretty neat at it is free and can be watched across all platforms etc. Subscribe to the YouTube channel and you should see links for each weekends matches.

Oakman and Cottom are great young talents. Oakman especially, kid's a gun. Terris must come with a majority coaching role. Just wash they'd speed it up, yeah... but better than teams like Waitak who seemingly forgot that a season starts in a couple weeks.

Will this be better than the dour footie served up last season or under Willy? Watching Bill Robertson (was at the end of his top level career) play killed my enthusiasm for United football. Could be open for ribbing but it seams that most Canterbury teams play similar football. Coastal, Tech, Bays and Canterbury United....

Read Danny Hays comments in ChCh Uniteds posts and it does seem off the mark. If he used that basis he should look at the Otago League for players as they are all young. Fundamentally if you are in the acadenies you have a better chance of being picked.

Just shows Padmore is looking to the future and trying to get himself cemented into the Cash Tech family. Picking 13 to 14 of their players, having Dan Terris involved in a playing capacity and as assistant coach is criminal. When did he last play a game of football. On another notel, what has Padmore actually achieved as a head coach? It seems he runs everything at mainland so is there ever a chance of him getting the boot and being held responsible for his shortcomings

Can you elaborate... which Tech players shouldn’t be there (except Terris) and who would you pick from the region to replace them? Who would you pick as assistant coach? Plenty of ex-players who go straight into assistant jobs because they get on well with the squad and are seen as leaders. And while we’re at it, what are Padmore’s shortfalls? Need to back it up if you’re going to rip into the blokes reputation on a public forum.....
