I think either Coburn, Henderson or Burgess. Both Henderson and Coburn got their team awards and Burgess scored 29 goals if you include chatham cup which has to count for something. We all know that it shouldn't have been Brand.

Does anyone know what the go with the imports are, I read in the odt that there were 2 Germans and a pom but they don't seem to have been mentioned since. Are they available to play yet?

I think the Englishman is injured - Possibility of at least one of the Germans getting a run this weekend.

where have i been..i have missed all the sean brand attacks.
well heres mine..
the guy is a striker who scores no goals in a league where a centre forward i believe should be getting at least 15 a season with some of the lower teams out there. Burgess and jackson both duopled his goals and then some cant see him doing a thing for otago up front. i was surprised when i heard they were even thinking bout him let alone signing him and maybe starting this week!!!! player of the year for me was out of coburn and henderson they were my top 2 both had great seasons just shows the influence the roslyn w**kers have in the voter for the cross eyed bear to pick up the award

News just in from the training pitch , good news all round brand is still on the bench , jackson will replace Scoullar up front
                           Little
     Henderson Horner Falvey Prattley
            Deeley Coburn Gardner
           Jackson Burgess Dugdale

Bench from Smith , Day , Connor , Flaws , Brand ??

Good to see little rotation going on , the young chaps will get there chance in due course according to Phelo

Good hard fought win for Otago , cant help think there maybe some changes this week , Probably Smith for Henderson(  had another average game ) , Maybe Chisholm on to the bench for either Day or Connor .                 Tab $50 x 2.40 = $$$$$$$$$

Interesting game, Canterbury were the better in the first half and probably bossed the midfield. Second half Otago took over and deserved to level the scores.

From my angle I thought the penalty was a con job, Brand over ran the cross and dived as if someone had pushed him.

Left back for Otago had poor distribution, couple of hoofs when not under pressure. Robbie Deeley? (No 8 with the handlebars) had one of those chasing shadows games, worked hard but was always caught in no mans land (he would be the midfielder that I would change, not sure of other options). Andy Coburn was strong, impressed with his control in the 2nd half. Barry Gardener on the left provided the best attacking moves. Up front Dugdale was a threat. The subs didn't add anything to the team, Tom Conner looked lost.

Canterbury looked strong in a couple of positions but like Otago lacked quality across the paddock. Fiffi had pace to burn but lacked support, they took him off to close up shop. Centre back was a real hard man, will be sent off at least twice this season, Andy Pittman was good but run out of legs. Not sure who the other midfielder (very right footed) was but he was very quick and quite attacking.

Nice at Sunnyvale but what is with the charging?

Left back had instruction to clear into the pocket , just doing what he was told I guess ?? , time and time again Falvey was never in support , horner running his arse raggered covering , Coburn and Gardner a good combo , might need a chisholm to assist he probably has a lot more direction than most ,

It was Henderson that got awarded the penalty , fouled at back stick edge of 6 yard box

Charging to get in is just standard for this sort of entertainment , try going to any other NZFC game and not pay to get in , if you buy a season ticket it works out cheaper ??

Roy,

Got the wrong person on the penalty.
Agree with the charging but very hard to police and on a site like Sunnyvale. Wasn't clear on who was collecting and that there was going to be a charge.
Don't have a problem with the charging, used to buy a season ticket and provide money as a small sponsor, for some reason they have stopped sending letters out asking?

o it was henderson well at least he contributed something in the game then. from where i was standing i couldnt see if it was a pen what did you think keano???yea horner outstanding again was unlucky with the goal that it took the crossbar and come back..think otago get caught to foward and then canterbury were catching them on the counter.Maybe $5 would get alot more people in $10 just seems to be a rip off for sunnyvale...

not sure weather the pen was justified , henderson had his shirt tugged on and fell down like Andy Hayden did  in that line out for the All Blacks against the Lions

As OU play a 4-3-3 , if the other team break quickly then we have to rely on our back four to halt preceedings until a couple of the midfield to come back and help out , i would be more in favour of either Gardner or Deeley staying back and sitting in the pocket ?? your thoughts

With regard to gate prices , remember your paying for the quality of football and not the ground itself , it is good to be nice and close though ??

Yea maybe he would have been better at the Oscars than the right flank the way he played yesterday although dive or no dive it made you a couple of $ didnt it..I think the public just dont think they should have to pay to go to a public park from what I have heard and otago should have known from the start this would be the case!If they got the A into gear from the start the could have booked the Caledonion and then the wouldnt have people effusing to pay because they wouldnt be able to get in!!So I blame otago for there poor organizational skills!!!

you arnt the first and certainly won the the last to curse the lack of organisational skills of otago football some of the things they have come up with since my involvement down south have baffled many!! god result nevertheless of a dodgy pen good to see an otago side showing some fight to come back from one goal down hasnt happened too often. feel sorry for left back prattley cos i can speak form experience when i say that it will have been drilled into his subconcious to hit the pocket 95% of the time he gets the ball

Not a bad shout Truth Manawatu will be a good measuring stick to competing with the mid-to-top table teams. Thought Prattley had a reasonable game. Missed the first half but thought he was sound in the second period. From what I was told it wasnt a bad thing I missed the first half, not to mention I got in for free! Although it wasnt an out and out penalty I thought there was some cause for a shout. Think 5 out of 10 refs would give that one although usually Otago wouldnt be on the receiving end so you have to take it. (how many times have bad calls snatched a victory from Otago?). Think it could be a real fight between the bottom six teams to be honest - watch for a real dog fight.

Yeah i agree Kennedy, its always going to be a two horse race for the winner, but apart from manuwatu the rest of the teams i think will be fighting to avoid the wooden spoon. My pick is Canterbury for bottam. Very dissapointed Canterbury agian have failed to sign any decent new players. Still trying to find out if Commins Menapi has actually signed or not.

Don't they have someone videoing these games? Surely that would answer your question on the penalty

they do have someone recording the game but Im not sure weather its just a local or channell 9 , with reguarding Commins , he hasnt signed yet according to the coach I spoke to on Sun , the coach said Commins was undecided weather he could commit for the full season there fore Monsef was unlikely to sign him if he couldnt fully commit to the franchaise , I understand he had also been approached by Phelo and said he could fly down each week but wouldnt be willing to move down for the season , i guess this would be the same for Canterbury , does anyone know who took a swing at Burgess after the game ???

Good to see they have a proactive board , unlike the one at otago united , In fact the thought of them gettingoff there arse to find sponsors make me break into histericks , OU almost totally funded by pokies apart from a few who feel soory for them

I think thats a bit harsh , I think what is required is someone needs to take charge and determine what direction this franchaise needs to take , this should be a franchaise owned by clubs , each club should invest 2000-3000 in the franchaise and for the investment you get your say on the board , the board should be a representation of the clubs in Otago , clubs that cant afford the contribution should pay say 500 - 1000 and still have a seat on the board but have minimal voting rights when it comes to voting on important issues ???
Your thoughts Truth

Maybe but for what reason does a club like Northern or Grants braes want to give $2000 of its hard earned money to Otago United when more than likely there not going to have any players or personal from the club?Do they want to be paying for all the tech and caversham players to get paid to play, new uniforms and whatever else the board decide too waste the money on.Im not so sure!

that may be why otago gets little support because only 3 teams in the league are good enough to contribute players.

MARC CHIDLEY NEEDS THE SACK

Very harsh, Marc does a lot of good work for football.

Otago United is structured well, takes the administration away from the clubs and allows the committee to focus on one goal rather than having agendas.

Dunedin is dominated by two industries, University and Hospital, not sure if there is any national business that have a head office in Dunedin, (we used to have quite a few until the 90's). It is a hard road to gain the sufficient dollars in sponsorship from the smaller business if they don't have a national profile.

Would love to ditch the pokie money but just don't know where else you can get the sort of money required from.

I'm sure that if they had options they would jump at it. No one likes having a Pokie Trust as a sponsor.

The 3 teams are strong ebecause they are able to attract the players through success and money. Tech and Cavvie are able to draw on large grants from Pokie Trusts, not sure where Roslyns funds come from.
The other clubs try but struggle to retain and attract sufficient quality players to compete at the same level. It isn't a level playing field.

i am not sure bout cavy and roslyn but players at tech do not get paid. the money recienved goes into the club and infrastructure. players go for the history the club has

Parca498, i can also cinfirm Tech players DONT GET PAID..  you would think making the chatum cup final, the players would maybe get some sort of bonus but aparrently not. Players play for tech because is such a wel run club with a great history, if you want to play in the southern league for money yo would got roslyn!!

I can see your point but arent we here for the betermint of the game ?? , doesnt all clubs get a letter from OU asking for players to put there name forward for a trial ?? , maybe a monetary input is not the answer ,

I apologise for saying that Tech players are paid. Do the senior players receive any inducements, subs, boots, travel allowances etc.
The reason I ask  is that there is a presumption among the 2nd tier clubs that they must provide financial incentives to attract players.

I personally believe that you go after the best coach. At the moment in Dunedin I would rate Fleming as the current top coach.

Perhaps a portion of the monies they receive could be channelled into certain individuals attending Kip McGrath...

Dino10Your telling me Scoullar and Jasper travelled from Queenstown              every Saturday for freeDont believe it!Not sure about caversham players id say imports get a we but maybe and no club fee's?As for Brand I heard hes getting $150 a game from an inside source and wouldnt be surprised if Tech or Caversham wanted to match that to get a fine striker next year hah
