Hardest language in the world they say haha. We'll see! Still can't believe someone of his stature decided to play in our league coming straight out of Europe in his early 30s

Just a Q on Southern, how's Ben Deeley been? Was very highly rated in the Auckland secondary school scene, unfortunately I missed the ACFC game so couldn't see him in person but keen to follow his progress

Maybe got sick of the attention in Spain, of his father being an ETA terrorist, and serving a 30 yr jail term.

Maybe just another Iberian gyspy like Riera.

Honestly mate, it was a good game to miss. ACFC were pants.

Looks like Southern United are doing another live stream this afternoon against Waitakere

Enjoyed the stream and the openly unashamedly biased commentary, especially the young lad, it was classic!

The wheels have really fallen off Waitakere this year

I really dislike having the kid in commentary, but he was better this week than last.

Also a good come from behind victory. Top 4 still well out of reach though.

don't think so cause of reason you stated - but contact Southern United on FB or Twitter they are good at getting back

They have streamed from Sunnyvale before, but it was soundless.

Hopefully they can fix that issue (they were based in the clubrooms/cafe so a lot of loud background noise would've been picked up on mic so they turned it off). It's a nice day maybe they can sit outside, just hope the mics don't pick up any wind.

Could Southern get to the semis?

Mathamatically yes. But Canterbury would have to loose a bunch of games. 9 point gap currently.

Can someone tell me the logic of promotion relegation in the footballsouth league.their is no way you have the player base and quality to do this.  Footballsouth seem to have no long term plan with little thought on long term effects of clubs. They tried promotion a few years back and it didnt work. I think it should be an 8 team league 3 rounds with southern imports spread around clubs. They would add plenty quality to the league but i dont think they are special enough to simply skip the local league and just play for southern. If a club doesnt perform over 2 or 3 seasons they should be cut for another club has proven themselves. It should stay as premier league league then fletcher cup.there isnt enough quality players to have a league in between.

Seems pretty spot on, not just Football South but the clubs seem to have little clue what they are doing either.

All that can be said after this weekend's action:

Tech look horrendous. Mosgiel and Varsity look excellent. Central Otago football is alive and kicking.

I know Uni have had their moments in years gone by - often starting seasons well before falling away come holidays etc - but I think they're a very different proposition this season. Seem to be much better organised and serious with actual support from the Uni itself.

Mosgiel too are very strong across the park, their attack would be as good as any in the South Island.

Would love to know the thoughts of Tech diehards about their situation - new coaches, new squad, but suddenly seem to have gone from champs to chumps.

A very interesting couple of months ahead.

If you look on the Tech website, something like 15 of those first team players are no longer in the playing squad. Sounds like their best centre back is crocked for the considerable future, and their other centre back got sent off for fighting against Caversham - so that could be a 3 game miss too.

I watched their first game against Mosgiel - they were playing a very complex style of football which clearly hasn't clicked yet - could it be that the players aren't good enough? What is clear is that they lack pace up top and a calm head at the back. Green Island must really fancy themselves this weekend.

Just on another varsity related note - Catto (goalkeeper) was sent off on the weekend. Do varsity have a backup keeper or is this the weekend when the wheels fall off? Big game against Roslyn, and they'll be doing it without arguably their two best players.

The rumours doing the rounds up here in Chch is that Dunedin Tech are more than happy not to qualify for the South Island league because of the costs. I’m pretty sure there are a few committees around the South Island with the same feeling.

I don't think they're throwing games because they don't want to be a part of the SFL - I think they're just a bang average team now.

Were the planning to get relegated and then build from there? Mosgiel and Varsity still looking the goods based on the table and Varsity trying to stream their game?

Trying to? Are they not bright enough to work it out.

Live Streaming of last weekends Otago Rally from the deep cold Otago back roads so what is hard about a single venue.

The Varsity stream may have been a little patchy, but it is a step in the right direction. I think every SPL club should take the responsibility of streaming their games and producing match programmes that preview and review the action. If enough photographers get around and publish photos to facebook as well - that will help too I think. Players/Coaches that can review their own games and look at other sides games makes for a better standard of league - and exposure for others to get interested in what is actually a pretty decent league.

It doesn't cost the world to film and publish game footage (if streaming connection is not viable) - so get amongst it Southern teams!

Early prediction is that this years South Island League is going to be a lot closer than last season - and hopefully clubs don't stoop to Tech's level and pay half of the Southern Squad to increase exposure. Bring on the rest of the season!

Tried? The streaming on Saturday was our first test run so we didn't expect it to be perfect. There is a chance to use different options over the next set of home games.

The lack of coverage of matches is a greatly frustrating but we are doing out bit to try and showcase our sides.

We are happy to take any suggestions.

Don't do your test run on the day of the event (:

If you can't stream, the next best thing would be highlights or record the full match and upload after. At least you can guarantee video quality that way too.

Edit: is there a video of what you did anywhere?

We did a test prior to the match at the venue but the weather was much brighter on the day and the sun made it difficult to view the field.

This weekend we are planning to run a different set up with a camcorder attached to a PC, the previous stream used a streaming camera. You should be able to find the stream via our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/otagouniversityafc/

Camcorder thru the PC is the way to go (especially if it's got the proper software that will let you do graphics as well)

Having someone dedicated to camerawork is a plus, unless you can commentate at the same time!

I think if it's zoomed in a bit more the sun shouldn't give you as much gip, plus a camcorder should be able to deal with that better if it's decent.

Found the stream, commentary was good.

Had some issues that couldn't be resolved before Saturday (who knew what an Elgato was), so we used the streaming camera again.

You can see our match report and a link back to our Facebook page where the live stream is pinned to the top: https://bit.ly/2WcuY9Y
