sending off was correct - first booking was soft but it was a massive dive and deserved a second booking for that.

West Ham penalty was soft, but their were stronger shouts for exactly the same thing earlier and the ref had warned them about grappling on numerous occasions so was bound to give one eventually.

Leicester penalty not given was probably a stronger shout than the West Ham one given but it was the first time it had happened. Leicester got 3 warnings so would have been harsh to penalise West Ham for the first one (although that should not be how the laws are applied).

Leicester penalty give was just a nonsense. Never a penalty and cost us 2 points. Fudgeing infuriating.

Have to agree with all of that.

I know ref's are people and can have bad days, but crikey, he's going to hope to never have a day like that again! I have some sympathy - the grappling was ridiculous. Both Ogbonna and Huth were at it all day.

It will be interesting to see if Vardy get's a further ban for his remonstrations. Maybe he could argue with that he was provoked?

Agree with Frankie, but the players took it out of their own hands with all the pushing and shoving in the area. Risky stuff. Last one seemed like a makeup call.

I think there should be a rule whereby the highest placing City or United get's the colloquialism for the following year. After all, West Ham is United as well.

Leicester should shall be 'City' - Manchester City have lost that crown as well.

yawn. 50,000 season tickets will ensure that there is a decent atmosphere at the new place.

Place was bouncing last night - amazing to be there. Had just arrived at the corner when the bus was peltered and to be honest it was not that big of a deal. There was a few cans and bottles thrown at it (and, weirdly, a cabbage) but it was no where near the "riot" or the "return to the bad old days" that is being made out in the press here.

Inside the stadium there were a number of renditions of bubbles that were louder, and more emotional than I have ever heard before. There was also a brass band on the pitch before the game which was great. They played Abide With Me while they did the In Memoriam before the game which was very emotional.

Good win from you lot. I don't think any team was going to stop you today. The stadium was absolutely banging.

West Ham up 3–0 in a friendly vs Karlsruher SC from the 2. Bundesliga, 82nd minute, and one Karlsruher player goes ahead and injures Aaron Cresswell with a bad slide tackle. Video. Winston Reid gets mad! Cresswell out for 3–4 months.

Not the worst tackle you will see - maybe the angle is not the best but did they both just reach the ball at the same time and the force from the opposition player created the injury?

Yeah but that sort of tackle and force in a pre-season friendly is kind of unsportsmanlike. It's just a friendly, they're down by 3 goals and this guy goes ahead and goes all in a tackle that will ultimately be irrelevant not only because of pre-season but because of the score. Why go in with such force? He's got nothing to gain from it.

fair pints, can only say that some guys are competitive no matter the situation  (even in cap 10) or could have been playing for a contract...

First match of the season, away to Chelsea. Can West Ham do it? Will they cause a massive opening day upset like they did last year vs Arsenal? I'm gonna go with draw.

On the whole, a really shark performance. Got we deserved although Chelsea could have been down to 9 men (should definitely have been down to 10 before their winner). Tbf, we were no where near good enough to be complaining about referee decisions.

Massive game on Sunday, with Bournemouth also looking poor in the weekend. They beat us 4-3 last season in a game where 2 competition winners were selected from the crowd and played as our fullbacks. Was hoping that they didn't try the same approach this season but if Antonio continues to play like he did last night.......

Why play Calleri straight off the bat today? You've got some great options in there, especially with someone like Fletcher who's proved himself so far.

We need Payet and Lanzini back desperately although it was superb to see Antonio back where he belongs. Tore doesn't seem to be anything too speical so far and the young kids did a decent job today, especially Marcus in the short time he played.

Are West Ham actually trying to qualify for the Europa League group stage this year? Because last year they pretty much intentionally played bad so they wouldn't be troubled by an extra six Europa League group stage games (at least) in order to focus on the league. Perhaps they're playing Calleri so they can focus on the league again?

West Ham purposefully crash out of the Europa League again to Astra Giurgiu. Why do they not care about the Europa League? Pretty deluded to think they can make top 4 by not playing Europa League—that's what they tried doing last season. Why do West Ham not want a title (Europa League) over no title?

I'll never understand English teams' hatred for the Europa League.

no hatred of the EL last night, just a shark performance. We had a strong side out but unfortunately with the injuries we have (Lanzini, Carroll, Ayew, Payet) combined with the new signings being shark (Tore and Nordtviet) we deservedly went out.

I'm actually inclined to agree with you about the new signings - maybe not Tore so much but Nordtviet hasnt looked too impressive so far

Zaza should be a good acquisition

I'm desperately looking forward to seeing the injured players returning to the fold, the number of key players out at the moment has become a bit ridiculous.

Things are looking promising with Payet, Lanzini and Carroll returning to the fold soon enough. Ferghouli seemed promising to many people and Zaza is obviously quite exciting. Throw in the idea of Callerri getting a chance to get to know the team and play with those out injured and it's not looking all bad.

I hope Westham stand firm on this.

How long does he have to run on his contract? I really hope it's 2 or more years so Westham can play the long game on this. If it's only a year or something then difficult to keep him when he'll go on a free eventually.
