Why don’t the Phoenix include in a deal a home game in Fiji (better than a home game in Sydney!) - probably get a fair number to the game too.
Roy Krishna (Odisha FC | India)
Because they're liable for transport costs outside of wellington. They'd need someone else to pay for it.

Good idea. Maybe we should just play 1 game in Wellington and ship out the other 12 to other venues. Football utopia will be reached when we achieve this. 13 different home grounds just dream the dream

Has some merit. Nix doing their bit for OFC. Maybe one of those unpopular Sunday evening games (same time zone as NZ).
However yes you would need a serious underwriter.
Fiji Govt/military has paid Super Rugby Games in Fiji.
The Fijian government invested NZ $1.6 million into a first-ever Super Rugby fixture in their country when the Chiefs beat the Crusaders 23-13 there in 2016 in front of a sold-out 20,000 crowd.
I understand the major issue is broadcasting. Getting HD content out of there requires sky gaming all their gear. That's a substantial costs, which seems to be have covered for that Super Rugby game.
A pre season friendly should do the trick
So unless Roy is signing for Zenit, he's on holiday in St Peters berg apparently

Well deserved, although I've never been, Russia by all accounts is a beautiful place. Hopefully gives him time to relax and unwind before unleashing again for us next season.

It's an interesting place. Went 16 years ago, lots of incredibly poor places and racism. The buildings I wanted to see were incredible and getting lost in the hermitage was fun ?

St Petersburg beats Moscow anytime for architecture, art and class.
But like with most large countries, you get poor / racist places and you get magnificent beauty in Russia as well.
was going to go it 2016 from Helsinki but G20 was on and we were advised security would shut most of city down. Random place to holiday...last game of their season today.
I bet he’s going to transfer there

It is only one month till the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. Lots of tourists choose to visit St. Petersburg precisely at this time for the "White Nights" experience.

That's not true, Moscow is a much older city, there's some great architecture around.

Enjoyed both cities tbh, both had their qualities. But I think seeing the km long line of prostitutes along the main motorway from the airport into town was one of the most depressing things i've seen. Would love to go back. Good choice from Mrs. Krishna!
Don't get me wrong, I prefer St Petersburg to Moscow but Moscow does have great parts and you can't say that St Petersburg beats Moscow hands down. Moscow has a lot of gems but you have to be prepared to travel for them, the city is massive and ancient and isn't as tourist friendly. It could be simply that I've spent a lot more time in Moscow (albeit commuting from about 40km north of the CBD) so I got used to the idiosyncrasy of the place.
If Krishna plays for Zenit St Petersburg that's a massive deal though. I'm pretty doubtful that he's on their radar.

That is true. An in general both cities are great, but each shows different Russia, if that makes sense.
I would also be surprised if Zenit makes a move on Roy, but stranger things happened.
Appears he has gone. If he has, then I wish him well. Has been a loyal servant of the club and don't fault him going somewhere for more money and possibly a longer future.
So Roy Krishna is lost to the A League having signed for a club in Korea

While I know money is always a powerful drawcard, I can never fully understand how non-white players (and other minorities) can play in Russia, given the level of fan vitriol towards them.
Of course, Russia is far from the only country with racist fans and chanting, but the fact that supporters often turn against their own players because of where they are from boggles my mind.

Fudge. Huge loss for the club but not unexpected.
I wonder if getting an NZ Passport made it easier for him to get signed up there?
Perhaps Waine will be seeing more game time next season if Williams leaves as well.
I genuinely believed he would stay. This sucks.

While I'm gutted he's gone, I'm glad he won't be playing against us any time soon. Congratulations, Roy - probably the Phoenix's greatest success story
Bugger.
Can;t blame him, golden boot at the end of a contract season would be the perfect opportunity to get a decent pay day from a club with mo money.
Good on him, will always be a club legend.
I mean, if you are going to go out it is best to go out on a high. Can't really beat being League Golden Boot, Johnny Warren Medal winner, Phoenix Player of the Year, Players player of the year and our leading goal scorer!
Must be a combination of good money and length of deal. It's Roy's last chance to get a big pay day, so has to cash it in, not really all that surprising.
Best of luck to him.

Exactly, his marketability will likely never be higher, gotta make most of it.

I had convinced myself too

I am 100% certain that it has. The Nix could've offered him a 5-year deal with big money too, but that's really no help if the club is only around for one more season. And then he'd be in the market again, but perhaps with a season that may not have gone as well for him as this one, and one year older.
His chances of staying here were never all that realistic, no matter how hard the club tried to retain him.
Hope we can use that marquee money somewhere else.
Good luck in Korea Roy.
Am glad at least he's not going to another A league club.
Good luck Roy hope it works out and hope like hell if it dosnt you come back here and not some other A league club
well we are royally fudgeed now!
Covert Agent saying Talay is going to announce his first Nix signing today ??

Half hoping he sharks the bed and comes back, half hoping he absolutely kills and and raises our profile.

tbf we're royally fudged not by deep-pocketed Korean clubs, but by no independent A-League
So confirming he will go at press conference at 4pm but it isn't Korea. Please don't be another A-League club. https://twitter.com/ByPhillipRollo/status/1132815190045499392
