Okay it was bad defending, an easy nod in, plus the game ended probably a bit flat for Wood as a draw.

But a Kiwi scoring at Old Trafford in front of 75,000 - I really hope this gets some good coverage in NZ media today.

Good memory! The only goal verus Egypt, in a 1-1 draw..

Egypt's scorer that day also now plays in the EPL.

Michael O'Keefe & Alex Feneridis, where are you now?

Good story for woodsy's grand-children one day 'knocked in my first goal at Old Trafford before Mo Salah'

Brilliant!

Looking forward to hopefully seeing him up front with one of the best dudes in British football, Peter Crouch, who has joined from Stoke at the age of 38, with Vokes going in the other direction.

Replaced by Crouch at 76 mins in a 1-1 home draw verus Southampton.

Burnley down a goal when Wood was subbed off, Barnes with a late pen at 94 mins to salvage a point.

Both sides go to 24 points, 2 points above relegation zone.

could have/ should have had his first hatrick according to reports with an easy miss late

Immediately after that miss, penalty awarded to burnley and even though 2 nil up and not long to go another player took it

Two quality strikes. "the Kiwi scores twice on the south coast"

Still Burnley lucky with Barnes pen, as should have conceded a pen at the other end, just prior.

And Wood puts Burnley ahead at home vs Spurs with a pin point header from a corner. 1 - 0 Burnley.

Edit: Burnley end up winning 2 - 1. Massive result and goes a long way to seeing Wood and Burnley in the EPL again next season.

Don't think I saw anything on the Herald or Stuff... Meanwhile everytime Steve Adam's sneezes it's front page news. If I didn't check on here I would think rugby news from some NZ town I've never heard of was the sports news of the day.

Consistently reaching double figures in the EPL would be pretty impressive TBH. Particularly given he's playing for a team that doesn't score a lot of goals. Still head scratching that Dyche didn't consistently play Barnes and Wood up-front up until the start of 2019, now they've gone unbeated in 8 (almost as bizarre as the decision to persist with Hart for so long with Heaton and Pope both available).

Must be because Woodsy is so good that they would get demoralised at training if they didn't share it around.

IIRC, Pope had a long term injury and Heaton was coming back from another injury at the start of the season. Having 3 of England's 5 best keepers at one club is a bit bizarre though.

especially given that club is Burnley. Imagine if pickford gets injured next year and England's squad for the euros could potentially have keepers only from Burnley

Heaton's been there a long time (club captain) and suffered a long term injury at the start of last season. Pope came in, having played hardly any EPL minutes, and played so well he got called up to the England squad (effectively as Heaton's replacement). Heaton was still unavailable at the start of this season and Pope dislocated his shoulder so they signed Hart.

I'd say now that Heaton is back, Hart won't have much of a future there, but he certainly won't be playing for England anytime soon

They also have Anders Lindegaard from Man U and a keeper who's been bouncing around the Championship for ages. Potentially the club with most keeper depth in the world??

Be nice to see Wood pick up a gig for a mid table team while he is still young enough. He's done well at club and international level and with better service he could really step it up and become one of the AWs greatest. Nothing wrong with where he is but I'd love to see him compete for a European spot...

What kind of value would he be now? He's shown he can compete and score in the EPL and against some top teams, is it realistic for him to get a gig at a bigger club in the premiership? Outside the top 4 or 5, is anyone else considered substantially bigger than burneley?

I would consider almost every other Premier League club except for Bournemouth, Huddersfield and maybe Watford and Brighton to be "bigger" than Burnley, as well as most Championship clubs and even some League One clubs (e.g. Sunderland).

However, given how well he fits in at Burnley and their success over the last few years I don't think it would be wise for him to move to another club battling for mid-table, unless of course Burnley get relegated.  He's already at a mid-table team that did finish 7th last year and played (badly) in this year's Europa League.

The style and partnership with Barnes has suited him. Everton were looking at him before he went to Burnley if reports are to be believed.

Lets hope he keeps up his good run of form against Newcastle, I say this as I've taken a gamble on him for my FPL team at the expense of an injured Rashford.

If Sala (RIP) is worth 15m, a striker not dissimilar to Wood in terms of physical profile/playing style, then surely Wood with his track record of scoring in England is going for around the 25-30m mark. Though the fee is influenced by how long he's got left to run on his Burnley contract, of course.
