Maritzburg United part ways with coach Eric Tinkler
After 4 games in the PSL (and a lose in the Top 8 Competition) coach Eric Tinkler has been given the sack. Sitting at the bottom of the DSTV Premiership, with no wins or draws, Maritzburg's Chairman pulled the plug on the Bafana legends reign.
Delron Buckley, Maritzburgs Assistant is the most likely successor. Buckley, also a Bafana legend has all the necessary credentials to take over the hotseat. Having played in the Bundesliga for over a decade for teams including Bochum, Armenia Bielefield and Borussia Dortmund, Buckley has the additional advantage of being a local boy of sorts (born and raised in Durban).
Other coaching candidates are probably Fadlu Davids (Orlando Pirates assitant coach and ex Maritzburg coach), Owen da Gama, Ernst Middendorp (also ex Maritzburg coach who is currently coaching in Ethiopia) and a long shot pick and a fan favourite Steven Pienaar.
What does this mean for Dan. Nothing really. Going to be a tough season for sure.His contract is up at the end of the season and I'm sure Maritzburg will look to extend it. Won't be surprised if a European or MLS team picks him up on a free at the end of the season. Free quality left backs are always hard to find.
According to reports the new coach is going to be Ernst Middendorp.
The German tactician will be returning for a second spell at Maritzburg United. Famous for taking Arminia Bielefied from the 3rd division to the Bundesliga in the 1990's. He was elected as Aminia's "Coach of the Century" by fans.
A very experienced coach, he generally has a love/hate relationship with South African fans who complain of his "boring football" tactics.He was last season sacked by Kaizer Chiefs for missing out on the PSL title by 1 point (yes that's right).
His wife is South African so will be able to start work immediately (no visa issue). Like every German coach you run till you drop and you keep the shape. Discipline, discipline, discipline. His a great character. Dan should be fine.

New coach and senior players are just not in form aka Arsenal. Also FIFA upheld an appeal that bans them for 2 year transfer season. So they have not been able to buy new players.
Losing the Premiership title on the last day of the season by 1 point has taken an effect. Their to goalscorer from last season Nurkovic has also had his head turned by BIG MONEY offers from abroad. The club has given him a new contract and he has just returned to play this week.

Lots of changes at Maritzburg United with the team losing 3 games in a row. That usually means the sack for coach's in the PSL (ruthless!) but according to the media Ernst Middendorp is going to stay and see out the rest of the season. MAYBE.
Middendorp has purchased a new goalkeeper from Bundesliga 2 club Eintracht Braunscheig and sacked Sebastian Mwange who only signed in the summer (brutal). They also sacked Tyroane Sandows who previously played for Gremio in Brazil. The former SA junior international hasn't featured for the 1st team and has been a disappointment. The winger was meant to partner Morgan on the left hand side. Maritzburg United have also sold Rushine de Reuck to Mamelod Sundowns. The central defender is a big lose to Maritzburgs defence. The media have also been brutal of their assessment of Venezuelen striker Jose Ali Meza.He could be sacked at the end of the season. Maritzburg are looking to bring back former Zimbabwean (probably has a SA passport by now) striker Evans Rusike who is sidelined by Supersport United 1st team.
It's very likely Maritzburg United will offer Dan a new contract. Probably 2 years + 1 year option. Also, for NZ talent looking to make a move to SA in the new season, there could be at least 2 or even 3 international spaces open. It's clear that Maritzburg United will need an overhaul in the new season, starting with top international talent. The current crop ain't cutting the mustard.
