Musa’s now on a MLS contract anyway. USL definitely better than Handy Prem.

Feeder league to MSL, and features Didier Drogba at Phoenix Rising, Utah team!!

Many of USL teams have aspirations to join MSL as expansion teams.

Arizona you mean. Phoenix has the 12th-largest metro area in the US, larger than Boston, Denver, or Seattle, so it makes a lot of sense as a location for expansion. Currently has MLB, NBA, NHL, and NFL teams, though the NHL team went through bankruptcy a few years ago.

Musa and ten man Phoenix (send off at 26 mins) draw 1-1 with Fresno FC.

Musa subbed at 77 mins, and his replacement scores Phoenix’s goal.

Phoenix come from 2 goals down, to beat LA Galaxy II by 4-3.

Musa subbed on at HT when Rising were behind 1-3.

His team mate and part club owner, 40 yr Didier Drogba got through a 90 min shift, and scored the winner from pen spot.

Perhaps Musa can talk Drogba, into investing in that other Phoenix team!

2nd v 4th in Western Conference USL.

Both Musa and Drogba starting for Phoenix.

Interesting to see if Musa goes to India, or also excused to focus on his club.

90 mins and a yellow card as Phoenix (2nd), beat the worst team in the USL Western Conference, Seattle Sounders II (17th) by 1-0.

Musa credited with an assist for the goal. Must have been some sort of long ball, as Musa not on screen in this video of the goal.

Phoenix playing Las Vegas in USL catch up game today. Win this and they go equal top of Western Conference with Orange County.

Unfortunately Musa is out injured. Hopefully nothing serious as he would be a huge loss for them, if he is unavailable in the playoffs.

Twitter account gives little away.

Comments post game against Reno 1868.

On ankle injury to James Musa:
"They're going to have some scans tomorrow, and we'll know more about it. You can't really tell right now. Maybe a small sprain, we're not sure. We'll know more tomorrow."

Phoenix's last game is at home vs Cameron Knowles Timbers II on the weekend.

Whilst Orange County have a tough road game at Reno 1868.

Looks like USL Conference quarterfinals are straight knock out, top seeds with home advantage. 1 v 8, 2 v 7, 3 v 6 & 4 v 5.

Musaless Phoenix lose to Las Vegas (15th) 5-2 in sin city. They were up 2-1 at HT!

They are unlikely to finish top now. Even if they win on the weekend and Orange County (OC) lose, OC has +6 better GD.

Undoubtedly when Musa plays DM for Phoenix, they are far harder to beat. Like Tuiloma, appears too good for the USL. Wonder if any MLS teams are looking at him. Rapids have some problems in midfield!!

Also new team FC Cincinnati (stand out USL side in 2018), join MLS next year.

Miami & Nashville join in 2020.

Phoenix again sans Musa, lose 0-1 to Portland II coached by Cameron Knowles.

Rising finish with two losses to place 3rd in the Western Conference, when a few days ago they could have been on track for top place.

Got overtaken for 2nd by Elliott's Sacramento. They may host Timbers II again next week in Conference QF.

Musa will hopefully be right for the playoffs. He's obviously a very important player for Phoenix.

To date he has played 26 USL games, with 24 starts.

I wonder if Drogba could have done a job for the Nix at a heavily reduced wage of course

Phoenix beat Swope Park Rangers 4-2 in their semi, to make the USL Western Conference final.

Drogba got through 90 mins and scored the Rising's 4th goal.

Unfortunately Musa is still out injured.

Phoenix will be hoping Reno upset top of the table Orange County in the other semi, so they get to host the final.

Well Phoenix Rising prove that they can continue to do ok without Musa.

They bet Orange County in California in the USL Western Conference final.

Score 2-1 Phoenix. Drogba with the 2nd goal, and at age 40 he goes the full 90 minutes.

Rising will now play Eastern Conference winners Louisville (5-1 victor over NY Red Bulls II) in the USL final in Louisville on Friday (NZ time).

Hopefully Musa is fit enough to at least make the bench.

He played in last year's final when his former team Swope Park Rangers lost 1-0 to Louisville.

No Musa, so disappointing last few weeks being injured, to end his season.

Be interesting to know if he’s on the radar of any MLS clubs. Seemed to have a pretty strong season in USL.

Phoenix Rising FC✔@PHXRisingFC

So it begins!

We're excited to make our first roster announcement of 2019: we've re-signed midfielder James Musa! #UpRising

From this week's Flying Kiwis -

James Musa: “I am delighted to be coming back to Phoenix in 2019 to build on the success we had in 2018. I can’t wait to link up with my new and old teammates and get to work to achieve our goal of bringing back two trophies in 2019. The club epitomizes what a top franchise in USL should look like. Not just from the player's standpoint but the ownership, coaches, front office and of course the fans are all amazing. It’s an exciting time for football fans in Phoenix and 2019 is only going to be better!”

There you go, the first player announced for next season. Musa had a rock solid 2018 but it was spoiled by an injury which cost him Phoenix’s entire playoff run, which was a long one. The Rising went all the way to the USL championship match, though were defeated 1-0 by Louisville City. Second year in a row that The Moose has lost the USL championship final. Here’s hoping for third time lucky as the USL gets a big rebranding for 2019 that better aligns it with the MLS. Also, Didier Drogba retired, so no more Drogs… but he still owns this team. Bit of a brush with football royalty, played in the same team as the great man for his final season as a pro.
