Did you watch any of the game? Maybe I should have wrote relatively useless, the point that most of the Bayern players weren't great (they're in the relegation zone of the 3rd tier) and it can't be good for Singh's development still stands.

I'm not sure if an international friendly every year or so counts as playing at another level.

I watched the entire game, these are 17, 18, 19 year olds playing in their first ever pro season, against full adults for the first time ever. There were a couple debuts out there too. I can’t blame them at all, it was obvious that they all had serious ability but not the tactical nous that comes with a few years of pro footy

I was quite happy for him to play most of his games for the reserves team whilst making the most of his opportunities with the first team.
However, if he's not going to see much game time for Bayern, and if he continues to dominate the 3.Bundesliga as he has so far, then I support a move to the second tier personally.

Yeah well that sort of reinforces my point. Singh isn't a teenager in his first pro season, he needs more to continue his development.

He still had a year contract with us, the old plan was to play today a friendly against a random Wellington region selection. I think Singh doing OK.

the season is a couple of weeks old BM will have 50+ games... I'm sure BM will know how to handle his development. The important thing is he is playing week in and week out.  How many other young keys are currently playing weekly for there club at a similar or better level and training with one of the best club sides in the word? 

The kid is 20 why the rush??? 

If he shines in our end of year friendlies, he might get picked up by a bigger team than some no-hopers in third-tier Germany... /s

at what point in football do players stop being no hopers??? Just interested to see what the required standard of success is?

Not sure the 3.Bundesliga is better than the A-League though. I never thought he'd be doing so well in his first season to be fair. So between being the best player in the third division (without effort) and learning in a more competitive environment (second/first division if a team can be found that will give him game time), I'd pick the latter.

might not be better than a-league but if he continues to be the best player in their second team he's got a solid chance of getting selected for the first 11. Waay more chance over there than playing in the a-league.

People are talking like a players development happens exclusively from playing league matches. I'd trust that he'll be getting far better development getting coaching at Bayern Munich than some tier 2 club.

Muller played 35 games for Bayern Munich II at this level and he seems to have turned out alright.

Either Pim Verbeek or Holgar Olschek (ex Socceroos coaches) said that they would get far more out of watching a training session at a European club, than viewing an A League game.

Something along those lines, when asked for his views on the A League, and assessing various players for the Socceroos. Remember there was a big stink when he bluntly stated it, but a general quiet feeling that he was probably right!

Singh will be learning a shark load, just training with the first team at the world's 4th biggest club. There is no hurry for a loan deal.

He has been there for shorter than a blink, he has had games for the 1st team in preseason, he has had personal praise aimed at him by the manager, he has looked great in games with the third tier team and he is getting to train with the first team squad. Not sure why people are already thinking this might be stunting his development. How long has it been??? I bet he has had more experiences to the positive in the first 2 months than his previous 3 seasons.  Im betting he is loving it.

Bayern should be announcing their 23 man Champions League squad in the next day or two, could be a good gauge as to whether Singh is still in the ballpark for first team opportunities?

God, if he scores in a hammering of the Serbs I think I'll explode. In a very, very good way.

There's a seperate squad registration for the knockout games, which I believe all occur after the next transfer window. So this is just for the group stages.

Technically it's for the entire competition from group stages to the final, but those who make the knockout rounds can make changes to their squad of 25, but they can only make a maximum of three changes, and still have to maintain a squad of 25 (of course, clubs can have an unlimited number of players on List B who don't have to be named until 24 hours prior to the match, but Singh doesn't meet that criteria for Bayern).

The deadline for squad changes is midnight 3 February 2020 for this season.

Most important thing is he is rated in the top 23. 

If he gets El Grap to explode that will be a bonus

Isn't it 23 plus a handful of kids from the academy? There's a weird set of criteria for that group beyond the 23. 

It's 25 that must include 2 goalkeepers and at least 8 homegrown players. Then there's the List B that doesn't have a limit but there's strict conditions on who can be placed on it.

Bayern have named Singh as one of 28 players there in their Champions League squad.

It includes four goalies.

Singh is one of eleven midfielders named, so his chances of taking the field would seem minimal.

Bayern only had seven players (including one goalie) on the bench in the Champions League for all their matches last season.

Yes, but there's every chance that Bayern will be qualified for knockout stages by Matchday 5 or 6, in which case they're likely to play non-first teamers on those Matchdays. There's a pretty decent chance that Singh will make a Champions League debut this season, unless Bayern really mess up their group and desperately need points in the last game.

Also, back on the squad rules, the squads need to conform to the rules that I mentioned above (25 that must include 2 goalkeepers and at least 8 homegrown players), but since there's no limit on List B players, the squad can be as large as you want, as long as you have enough players who meet the List B criteria.

Bayern's first Champions League match is one week away - Thursday next week.

The confusion seems to be caused by the fact that Bayern have named a squad of 28 for the Champions League

However the Bayern website explains that Kovac has named "24 pros plus 4 young talents":

Bayern seem to do it their own way, including youth players in their squad of 28, possibly not bothering about "List B" players submitted the day before each match (youth players born on or after Jan. 1 1998 who have been registered at he club for at least two years since age 15)

Midfielder Leon Goretzka, named in the Chmps Lge squad, is now out injured for some time after surgery this week...

It'll certainly be great if Singh makes the matchday squad at any point.

.However, looking at last season, Kovac stuck with seasoned first team pros even on the last group-stage matchday vs. Ajax in December (both starters and on the bench):

Yep, like I said, the requirement is 25 (with those added stipulations), but that can be added to at any time up to 24 hours before a game with unlimited amount of List B players (which means you can also include a number of List B players on top of the 25 right off the bat, like Bayern have done, and some others too). And obviously, Bayern can still add to it too, if they feel like they need to, and have more players who meet List B criteria.

Interesting about the line-up in the last match against Ajax. I'm guessing it was an effort to ensure Bayern won the group (loss in that game would've meant they finish second).
