Current Mansfield Town striker Ryan Evans died today of a sudden heart attack. Thing that got me was that he was just 18, captain of the youth team. A scary reminder that you can be the image of health and still succumb to sudden death like this. RIP

I remember playing with him in Reserves and him dishing out sledges I'd never heard before that were absolute gold...I also remember his tale of tearing a hamstring while playing and then tearing the other one as he fell over due to the first one.

after the kick happened in 1970 they changed the law to saw the ball must be kicked and move forward at a free kick and they took the view that jumping with it between your feet wasn't a kick. But as Club Oranje points out the kick would now be legal under the current interpretation of the law, which probably came in when they changed the law about kick offs always having to go forward, would be interesting to see someone try it
Free kicks have never needed to go forward. Otherwise how would you ever take a free kick near the by-line.
At least there is no mention of changing the law in the history of the laws of the game.

the going forward thing means a rotation of the ball (not the direction you are facing) pretty sure it used to be a rule
anyway the donkey kick was outlawed as the authorities at the time (1970) deemed that the ball was lifted and not kicked

What a classy player Paul Madeley was! When Bobby Moore picked the best England team he played with, only two players were from the 1970s period: Paul Madeley & Roy McFarland. That speaks volumes on how highly rated this guy was. IMO England haven't had a right back anywhere near his quality since. Please don't anyone mention Gary Neville...
Madeley really was what could be referred to as a "Cultured" player. Rarely appeared flustered.
