I don't think Uni are as good as you think, will be happy to be proven wrong.

Reasons for this are.

Playing a player [striker or midfield] that couldn't make the Nomads PDL [not at Div 1 or MPL] team over the last two seasons.

Got smacked by Nomads last year by 5 goals I think who ran away with Div 1.

Div 1 is a poor league as far as the standard of football from some teams and has not been good for about 6 or more years.

So it's easy to look good against crap teams.

Look at Nomads this year and expect Uni if promoted to be below them next year.

Maybe the coaching at Uni is at a level above Nomads and FC so give you that tick.

A big advantage for University is if they win promotion they will be able to offer scholarships to attract players.

Your comments would appear that you dont know much about football.. A) Any player can make the most of opportunities if and when provided ( think you will find this player is not starting ). B) I'm pretty sure this season is a hell of a lot different from last in terms of player quality, coaching and technical support C) They already comfortably beat a MPL side, and think you will find they would more than compete in MPL next season. D) And their reserves lost to Western MPL 3-2. Think you will find they deserve more credit! Another jealous ChCh United or Waimak supporter maybe?

Woooah settle lads. Scottie made some observations that are just as subjective as yours :) The real test will be if they get the opportunity to play MPL next year, pretty much every thing else is immaterial. Odd good results are only an indicator of potential and no guarantee. University also face the issue of keeping a side together from one year to the next but it is good to see them providing a spark of light in an otherwise dour competition (Div 1 that is).

This sounds like an over-zealous, paranoid uni supporter if you ask me. For a club claiming no political bias, that seems like a pretty charged statement.

Nomads at the same point in the season last year had only conceded 2 goals, and both teams scored a similar amount of goals. The only difference is Nomads lost to Selwyn, while Uni have yet to lose a game (did draw vs Cashmere Tech though). Also, nomads was the team coming down from Premier. Uni have been stuck in div 1 for years, and for them to set the standard (even if it is in Div 1) is a positive step forward for the quality of the leagues and strength of the clubs.

Unlike Womans Pem, where different teams improve / get worse on an annual basis based on player movement, Uni have built themselves a strong side not at the cost of other clubs.

On that note, if Uni played Nomads tomorrow, I would put my money on Uni. However, for them to 'more than compete' at MPL level?? Not sure.

What a good look that would be with a government funded $60m bail out coming up!

No not over zealous, however yes I do support Uni as know players in the squad. I know how hard they have worked both on and off the field, apologies if anything has offended you, however all this rubbish going on off the field is not deserved by the players! Talk of cheating and the other crap I have had to listen to by opposition players and supporters in the last 2 games is totally uncalled for and unwarranted!

Yes I maybe a bit bias, however I do believe that there is a load of talent that given the opportunity in MPL to compete would be more than capable.. IMO

Never apologise for the bias greenbeans, there are far to many neutrals in this pc world. Love your passionate support and look forward to shouting you a beer next year after Coastal kick the Varsity boys back to reality :)

Sorry to continue this musical transfer theme but Will Smith has just transferred to FC2011.

Heard a Masters 3 game disintegrated into farce on Saturday - Waimak players called for the game to be called off due to the behaviour of a bunch of Irish lads playing for CashTech (make up your mind) who obviously weren't told this was SOCIAL, MASTERS grade.

Ooh really? Where did you hear that from? Good news if it is. Means they will only be 4 points behind the 5 teams on top on 13.  What a random Div 1 this is.

Not really Mainland news but interesting:

MEDIA RELEASE

For immediate release

WELLINGTON PHOENIX AND ASIA PACIFIC FOOTBALL ACADEMY TEAM UP

The Wellington Phoenix and Asia Pacific Football Academy (APFA) have joined forces to develop the next generation of football talent in New Zealand.

Based in Christchurch, the APFA is an intensive, live-in programme aimed at youth between 13 and 17 that trains aspiring footballers to the highest technical standard.

Under the joint agreement the Phoenix will look to channel identified young footballers between 13 and 17 to the APFA where they will be trained under a programme specifically designed by Phoenix and APFA coaches.

Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome said the partnership was crucial to the on-going development of the Club.

“The directives from the owners of the Club have been clear – we need to continue to invest and develop the next generation of football players if this Club is going to challenge in the A-League,” Dome said.

“This initiative is the next part of that process. If the Wellington-based Football School of Excellence based around Team Wellington is at the top of the academy structure, then this partnership with APFA is the next level down.

“The APFA meets all our criteria for being able to develop top quality football players with the best technical skills, while also being able to meet their educational and development needs outside football.

“We are extremely pleased that we have concluded this initial agreement and are looking to expand our academy structure to as many centres as make sense in the future”.

APFA Managing Director Andy Smith said his Academy was thrilled to have the association with the Phoenix.

"We are excited to have agreed this partnership with the Wellington Phoenix,” Smith said.

“APFA has been working successfully with young New Zealand players for a number of years and often many career pathways in football led overseas.

“This initiative now offers talented young domestic players a significant new onshore opportunity for them to work towards their dream of playing professional football."

Does anyone else get the feeling different entities are looking to own part of a pathway?

a) APFA - Football School of Excellence/TW - Phoenix; b) FTC/NTC/ASB/National teams

It reads like this -
"After a Board appeal decision, the Universities Football Club Division 1 side will be credited with 15 of the 28 competition points it was deducted after playing an ineligible player for the first five rounds of the 2013 season.

Under regulation 1 of Mainland Football rules, the Board of Mainland Football is required to hear an appeal case made by a club.  Having heard the appeal case, the Board has confirmed, that under the playing regulations, the Mainland Football competition manager has the ability to sanction teams who have played ineligible players at any stage of season.  The Board also confirmed that the decision to forfeit points for all matches in which anunregistered player took field was also the correct one.

The appeal panel did however, find that the competitions regulation providing for an additional penalty of deduction of points for each relevant game/s was inconsistent with NZF rules, therefore the additional penalty was rescinded and UCAFC will be reinstated with 15 points of the original 28 points deducted.  Under the playing regulations UCAFC will be fined in respect of the offending matches, in lieu of the additional points penalty. As a result of this case and to ensure the Federation playing regulations are consistent with NZF regulations, the Mainland Board has instituted a review of its competition regulations."

Common sense prevails. Now get on with it on the paddock. Varsities now on 9 points, 4 behind Waimak, CHCh Utd, Hornby and the mighty Turtles. Wicked.

Not quite Vim, they don't go straight to 15 points, they get 15 points returned, they are currently on -6. Interesting thing is apart from Selwyn (who Varsities get to thrash again this weekend) the other 6 teams are all within 2 points of each other and all play each other this weekend so the mad scramble to stay ahead of Varsities begins with Utd playing Mid Cant (the two complainants who dobbed Uni in remember) on Friday night, then FC v Cashmere and Waimak v Hornby on Saturday. They also don't play Utd again so sit 4 points behind and must rely on other teams taking points off them to head them off. 2 biggest games of the round would appear to be Varsities v Waimak on 06th July (grudge match given what went on last time the 2 teams played) and the following weekend when Waimak are at home to Utd for the last game of the season.

I love the bit they say they will conduct a review to ensure there regulations are in alignment with NZF regulations. surely that should have happened when they drafted them in the first place? $800,000 payroll ........................................?

I must say.. Nelson College have been handed probably the easiest draw so far in the Chatham Cup. Three rounds in and they still won't go up against a Mainland side.

The draw is (to be played 15/16 June):

Southern Region
Nelson College v Waimak United
Cashmere Technical v Ferrymead Bays

Caversham v Dunedin Technical
Roslyn Wakari v Northern

So Tech and Bays meet in the league this weekend and again the following week in the Cup.

I thought Nelson College (and Richmond who they beat at the weekend) are both Mainland sides as are all teams in the top of the south? Or did you mean MPL team Luis? In which case neither has Waimak who have yet to play a game in this years competition. Would be funny as a fit if they travelled to Nelson, won then got drawn to go to Dunners in the next round. Bet that's not in their budget.

Spot on OTF, missed that, so they are well qualified to be in the round of 32 and could conceivably reach the last 16 having defeated Selwyn and Nelson College woot! Although as you say they may well struggle to beat Nelson College.

To be Fair though - We (Selwyn) were hardly a match for Waimak.  We've played them 4 times now and we still haven't learnt to stop giving them the ball.
