Ummm.... the ball was kicked into the ref, with the Utd player then putting it top corner from 30 yards. I wouldn't call that an assist. I thought the ref did a good job today; heaps of yellow cards as he was busy.

Interesting fact that a grand total of 0 players in today's starting 11 for Chch Utd played for them last year. 1 may have come off the bench late in the second half.

Did Kaz and Geoff not play today then?

Kaz came off the bench, not sure of this Geoff you speak of.

They must be improving, they had an assist of an assist on Saturday for Selwyn. I like this 1 touch stuff- they are trying to play

They need to work on their formation though. I know that the current fashion of a 3-5-2 is good, but I personally prefer the 4-4-2.

I don't know how these referees are expecting to win the game with a "1" style of play. It's just ridiculous. The NRL are slightly better with 1-1, maybe they should learn a bit from them.

Wouldn’t be a problem if Ekow behaved himself and could do what he’s supposed to be good at.

Forget golden boot let’s have a table for teams / coaches on most cards in MPL. Western to take the first one by a golden mile?

What actually is Ekow's role at Coastal? I know he's the Head Coach but from what I've heard he doesn't actually do too much of the coaching himself, he leaves that all up to Jesse.

He obviously picks the team he wants and issues tactical instructions, but how many of the Head Coaches about in the MPL, WPL and CCL lead training sessions and how many use others?

* This isn't a dig at Ekow, it was just something that was interesting to hear and made me wonder what involvement Head Coaches actually have at other clubs

Todays game of Selwyn vs Coastal was interesting.

Coastal played a fairly solid game and probably had the wood over Selwyn for first 15/20 mins.  The difference was when Selwyn did get on the counter, they took their chances and made them count.

Coastals set play from corners etc were dangerous, but the defensive line/Keeper held strong and kept Coastal at bay.

Selwyn on the counter took their chances and made them count again.

Near the end when Coastal were trailing by 1 (3-2) was amazing from two sides.

Coastal were in desperation mode - Clearly peppering the goal where they could, but making some horrendous fouls (2 fouls - 1 that deserved to be carded and 1 that didn't look out of place on WWE RAW)  Even players berating the Referee for making a decision that didn't go their way (appealing for a handball that may or may not have been - my view wasn't good for this) - I was even more appalled by the reaction of the bench (apart from Jessie who genuinely looked concerned who players that went down) didn't see an issue.

Winning is always the mission - but winning dirty - up your game.  (To be fair Some decisions or lack of by the Ref may have resulted in some of this happening, as he could've been firmer)

Selwyn on the other hand defended extremely well and played the dying 5(or 8) mins of extra time extremely well - and while Coastal might feel robbed of the game - play smarter.

Guessing you don’t actually know many of the Coastal Supporters properly then? Many of them are passionate about their club, whether they are originally from New Brighton, Rangers or new since the merger 11 years ago.

Yes every team can have their supporters that over step the mark, but Coastal generally get pretty good support wherever they are playing, which is something that is good for the game.

There is banter with players and coaches from opposition teams, but sometimes that’s what makes a great atmosphere. I’ve played against them a few times and have had it especially directed at me as they know me, but you just laugh it out and get on with things.

Looking forward to maybe seeing them all again soon ?

Another massive failure from the mighty Messiah. Is the coaching to blame? This seems to be Jesse's job. Or is it the management, which seems to be Ekow's job? Or, is it the players? Or a combination. Questions to answer Coastal fans....

Injuries have not helped Coastal in the second half of the MPL, with just one win and a draw in their last six games but poor conversion of their scoring chances has been their down fall this season. Sixteen goals in their first seven games, eight against and in the last six 9 for and 14 against.

Today they dominated the stats, attacks, possession - corners were 18 to 3 but Selwyn dominated the scoring stats and in the end that is the only stats that matters and lead to points.

Interestingly Coastal have the most individual scorers of all the teams in the MPL 14, but on the flip side their joint top scorer's MPL are Ant Jones, Aaron Spain, Ash Wellbourn and Haris Zeb - all the three goals, 3 players have scored twice and the other 7 a single strike.

History shows that if you are to finish near the top you need to have your top scorer(s) in double figures, even in a 14 game league.

Cashmere Technical claim their 6th MPL title, a record now going 1 ahead of Bays.

Tech and Suburbs still the only to sides comfirmed for the Soutern Football League.

Bays play their catch-up game against Selwyn on Tuesday evening

Western play their catch-up game against Technical on Thursday evening

Catchurch up game between Nomads and FC Twenty11 bening played next weekend.

So that means Coastal’s Southern League Qualification is out of their own hands as either Selwyn or Bays will go above them before the last round of matches!

Not if there is a draw between them but looking at the current table 20 points, or more, will see you playing in the Southern Footy League but 19 points could still be the cut off point with goal difference then likely to come into play.

So if Western take a point off either Tech or Suburbs they will qualify. Two losses then they will be sweating

If there is a draw between Bays and Selwyn then Bays chances likely to be gone even if they win their final games against Tech, with Selwyn then needing to defeat Nomads to make the cut.

If both Selwyn and Nomads win their catch-up games then a draw between them in the final round will see them both in the top five.

FC can still have a big say in the top five if they secure points in their final two outings

Final Round on 22nd June is:

    Midday

I think that catch up game between Selwyn and Bays will be crucial to see who goes through with Cashmere, Nelson, Nomads and Coastal. Will Western dip out at the last hurdle? Can Coastal string together one half decent performance and beat FC? Been a fascinating season.

Amazing stat coming out of last nights game between Bays and Selwyn.

Selwyn have now scored in 25 of their 27 MPL games or 92.6% ,with Cashmere Technical the only other side over 90%, scoring in 139 of their 152 game for 91.4%.

I know the number of games are clalk and cheese but still an impressive stat for the Stallions, in just their second season on the MPL.

Two sides above 80%, Bays third best of the current MPL sides on 82.3% and Suburbs on 81.7%.
