Sure was entertaining. Lights malfunctioned 10 seconds after kick off so play was halted for 30 minutes. Game had to be shortened to 2 40 minute halves as lights were also on automatic timer and would go off at 8:57pm. As for the game itself too much drama early double red card Jacob Hall elbowed Jared Colligan in the face knocking teeth out Colligan was sent off for his reaction. (He also chased Hall back into the changing rooms picked up a broom and cracked it across his back) Chad Coombes saw red for two yellow cards and Jack Caunter was sent off for a bad tackle. All goal scoring action came in the first half Nicolas Zambrano, Kenta Nakashima and Maro Bonsu-Maro for Central and Caunter for Bay Olympic. Crum Park basically turned into Crime Park.

Amazing.

That sounds real serious but one would expect Auckland Football to sweep it under the carpet or just brush it off

i don't know Jared personally or Jacob but i have watched them both play a lot - Jared is pretty laid back kind of guy, plays hard and likes a bit of a word on the pitch but this sounds out of character for him.

Not defending his actions but he must have felt the elbow from Jacob was deliberate to react like that - or is there some history between the two?

Yeah potentially but obviously Birkenhead's offer (30k apparently) was far better

sorry i was being tongue in cheek - I'm gonna go on record just to state that i believe these teams pay players but some of the figures are way above what is actually being shelled out.

For him I believe it's a part time job - has to do so many hours coaching a week etc. I believe it, source is decent.

It's probably replacing Jack as he was doing coaching for the juniors I think.  Fair enough then.

ECB 1 - 1 FHM. Fairly even game, ECB had the best of the first half but FHM came out strong in the second and had the best chances but ECB had their fair share once the game opened up a bit. Alex Howard and Dylan Stansfield the scorers

Yeah think I heard Tade played for Central too so must have been fairly straight forward? Spoonley was class, don't think the Spanish bloke would have made half those saves

Top notch game. I thought the ref had a pretty good one all things considering. As you say though, quality quality entertainment.

Went to watch the Onehunga / Birkenhead game today.

Onehunga won 5-2 after leading 4-0 at halftime.

Onehunga is a very good, well organised team who controlled the ball well and overall were well drilled.  They have a lot of very good players, Lewis, Lovemore, Hudson-Wihongi, Dyer, den Heijer and some real tidy Asian boys.  They were all over Birkenhead in the first half and created some real well taken goals.  Having said that Birkenhead were very flat footed on 2 of the goals, unmarked player from a corner for the second (or third) and the player on the post just watching an opposition player to tap in after the keeper was unable to control an awkward looping ball off the cross bar from another corner.

I thought Birkenhead were quite unlucky to concede a penalty after they had scored 2 and looked like they were getting back into the game.  Two changes at halftime made a lot of difference to the Birkenhead team who were taking control of the game in the second half.

The officiating however was quite poor and I hope there was an assessor  watching today.  At best the referee was incompetent and at worst, he was quite biased IMHO.

My above comment should take nothing away from Onehunga who were clearly the better team and deserved their win.  Well done Onehunga.

Went to Kiwitea street to watch Central vs Forrest Hill today. 2-0 central was a fair result. They created a few more chances than FHM and will probably be saying their finishing needs to be better. FHM got close a few times but not as many clear cut chances as CU. FHM will be hoping for better return from their big money players Bale and Spoonley in particular. Bale had an absolute mare of a game and Spoonley spilled the ball cold after regulation catches (wouldn't even classify as saves), the second of which he dropped into his net for CU's second.

Stalemate at the top of the NRL at Madills Farm. But the footie was good to watch even without goals. Made the All Whites v Fiji look like a park kickabout.

watched the Birkenhead / Melville game.  Birkenhead went down inside a minute, but the rest of the match was pretty much one way traffic.  Surprised to see Sam Burfoot playing for Birkenhead, and wow what a difference he made to that team. He is all class.  He scored their first and had a direct hand in another 3 or 4.

Melville didn't help their cause with very poor discipline finishing the game with only 9 men.  One sent for a lame headbutt and the other for 2 yellows - the second for cynically taking out Sam after he had once again ran around him.

I was at the game and agree. Burfoot was head and shoulders above the rest. Started off a bit shaky but that could be due to coming in off ten days with the all whites! Heard from a club member that he (Burfoot) was not enjoying Australia, not happy with the way his team played and simply wanted to come home.

Birko were far to good for Melville and with some injured players returning could make a serious move for the top spot!

The club Burfoot was at, Eastern Lions, plays in the 3rd tier in Victoria, NPL2 East; and they currently sit 8th out of 10. Who advised him to try his luck there?
