Kurto and Rudan have not been announced, which is why I find it amusing they're on the WU wiki page already.
Really hope Kurto only agreed verbally (if he did) and that Ufuk can sway him to stay.

There's a great crop of old stars from Europe who are off contract in June. Every year we talk about this and it rarely ever happens but I'd love for any of the 11 clubs to pick up some of these. Of the highly unrealistic players that would surely qualify for a marquee fund, these would be the pick of the bunch:

  • Arjen Robben
  • Franck Ribery
  • Mathieu Valbuena
  • Roberto Soldado
  • Wesley Sneijder
  • Santi Cazorla

Then there's these second tier kind of players who would be a slightly more plausible signing in the A-League:

  • Darren Fletcher
  • Jon Obi Mikel
  • Marcus Berg
  • Samuel Eto'o (surely we try again)
  • Jakub Blaszczykowski
  • Peter Crouch
  • Ricardo Vaz Te
  • Prejuce Nakoulma

Brook earns extension

Adelaide United appears set to re-sign teenage sensation Lachlan Brook for a two-year extension.

The 18-year-old made his A-League debut in a scoreless draw with Sydney FC last year, eight months after featuring in a Reds AFC Champions League clash against Jiangsu Suning (0-1).

He spent a lot of the time sidelined with a knee injury this season.

Brook is the third off contract player out of the 10 at the start of the season to re-sign for Adelaide after Michael Marrone and Nikola Mileusnic recently penned extensions.

Adelaide has lost youngsters Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (Western United) and Scott Galloway (Melbourne City) to rival clubs.

Papa Babacar Diawara was told via the media his contract won’t be extended.

Vince Lia has according to sources been told a decision on his Reds future won’t be made until a new coach is appointed.

Taylor Regan wanted out in January and paid for his own transfer fee in January to Selangor.

Kristin Konstandopoulos is also uncontracted.

Ken Ilso is serving a provisional ban for alleged doping.

It’s understood Adelaide’s on loan striker Jordy Thomassen’s representatives are interested in getting the Dutchman to Central Coast Mariners next season.

Thomassen is contracted to De Graafschap until June 2020, a club which is currently in the Dutch relegation play off zone.

Only Janjetovic, Baccus & Elrich are left who have been at WSW longer than 1 season (ignoring those who came thru their academy)

With Janjetovic apparently having been told he can look for another club. There's a lot of young players that they've let go, have no clue where they are going as a club

Who?

Former Swiss international. Spent the last decade or so in the Bundesliga.

Former Swiss International midfielder who's played over 250 times in the Bundesliga, and 26 times so far this season.

His club record reads; FC Luzern -> Young Boys -> Bayer Leverkusen -> Eintracht Frankfurt -> Hoffenheim -> Hannover 96

Some would say that's a pretty good pickup...

Sounds like a deep lying DM in the Paracki mold - imo not the type of player that import spots are best used on.

Fair, just think it's usually better used on players who provide attacking impetus. Paracki, Kopa, A-Rod etc. maybe have clouded my judgement.

Reira was decent. Also half the teams in the league have foreign DM's, I don't think it's an easy position to fill with local players.

It's probably more to do with the quality of the players named, rather than the importance of the role. Get the right guy in there, and the team potential rises immeasurably. The problem is that good players in that position cost quite a bit of money.

Defence wins the league. WSW have blown a lot of money on marquee attackers in the past few years for naught, if this guy lives up to his pedigree he might provide more impact on their league position than previous big money spent on attackers.

Former Adelaide United playmaker Daniel Adlung has rejected an offer from Western Sydney Wanderers after the Reds made an approach for the German maestro during the January transfer window.

Despite Adlung keen on rejoining the Reds and former coach Marco Kurz happy to be reunited a new deal was never concluded.
Former Adelaide United midfielder Daniel Adlung is keen for an A-League return.

Adlung, 31, is still considering a return to Australian soccer after he couldn’t agree to terms with Wanderers, sources close to the German have revealed.

Adlung returned to Germany mid contract at the end of May 2018.

At the time Adlung claimed “small details” had let him down after he feared being evicted from a rental property with his family when a huge bill wasn’t paid.

Adlung was an assistant coach and player at Greuther Fürth II when he returned to Germany, playing 26 matches, scoring once and has been credited with four assists.

Star ex-Reds Danish winger Johan Absalonsen also had “issues” before returning home to Denmark after seeing out his one-year deal.

Absalonsen, 33, is also contemplating a return to the A-League according to sources.

He currently plays for Danish club SönderjyskE where his contract ends in June.

Adelaide midfielder Vince Lia — out of contract — has also attracted interest from new club Western United.

Central Coast is also looking at ex Reds youth team player Blake Carpenter.

I think this is often the case, but Schwegler is a very good player. Different class to Paracki, A Rod, etc
