I spoke to the manager a couple of weeks ago, he told me how he wanted to play. I spoke to Tails [captain Steven Taylor]and he told me about the city, told me about the league. It’s going to be completely different to what I’m used to but I’m excited for a new challenge. Quoted from Hooper today so obviously been looking at him well before the window closed

I don't say this lightly but considering WUs team and our inabillity to not score, we have SYD, PER, MV and MC coming up whom are all a tougher proposition. We could conceivably be 5 rounds in, 0 points and 0 goals. Waiting until January basically says 'We are developing youth this season and stuff the results'

You do not make playoffs without a striker, even more so when you sign on in January and the season is bolted.

Talay and Dome can make all the noise the like about the right player but as its stands, playoffs are out of our reach. A striker would have possibly made that an option. When the fans stop turning up because of the results, they can't whinge at anyone.

The take here is fudgeing diabolical.

Actually no. The deal fell through previously for other reasons.

Anyway.  I used to hate this guy when he played for the dhims, well, any non-jags weegie tbh. Scored a good few against the Dons but very pleased to have him down here.

And no, he never played with MacDonald, they were years apart apparently.

So had a look of course.

McDonald left Celtic after 2009/2010 season. Also Killen's last stint in Glasgow.

Hopper arrived the season after 2010/2011.

An exciting statement, lets hope he can. Hooper has vowed to replicate the scoring form which made him a firm favourite with the Parkhead support during his three years in Scotland

Scottish press said Hooper was also approached by Iranian club Esteghlal but opted to join the Phoenix on a one-year deal following a discussion with coach Ufuk Talay. Maybe it didn't fall through as similar was said about Davila and he has said he was always going to sign here

What a dumb thing to say. He had a choice, he could have stayed home and had a holiday.

Have I missed something, Hooper is a mate of Chris Wood?

I see he was first at Celtic in 2010/2011. Chris Killen left after 2009/2010.

I presume Hooper would have played with Scott MacDonald in Glasgow?  If so wonder if he gave him any feedback on the A League.

Im worried that Hooper didn't pass the medical in Iran? Is he caring a injury that's why he will be used as a sub in Rnd3?.

So do they have better doctors than the Nix? Cause he did a medical with us on the morning before he was announced!

Not until January at least, the transfer window is closed so only the guys who were free agents on the 15th October can be signed.

totally agree on this, 99% of your posts Royz involve you moaning about something, either the player we've just signed is shark, or he's only coming here as a last resort, therefore he's crap.....why do you bother mate?

He's just not traveling to Sydney for this game. No mention of him being used as a sub in Rnd 3, he may but it's not being quoted anywhere.

But he is expected to debut against Perth Glory in round three and declared himself "injury free".

He's back in the UK.

https://www.scodhorpe-united.co.uk/news/2019/october/grimsby-u23s-preview/

This regarding Iron U23s who were to play midweek, but had their game verus Grimsby Town U23s postponed.

"Clayton Lewis is now back from international duty with New Zealand Under-23s too, so comes into contention."

To me it's looked from the outside like a player keen to return to NZ, and a club prepared to let him go.

He's missed about 8 League Two games whilst away with the NZ U23s in Australia & Fiji. Bit odd that Iron were happy for that to happen, when they have been struggling at the bottom of the Football Leagues.

Nix had a look at him in preseason in NSW. His girlfriend now back in NZ.

But maybe Nix just not interested, or them and Scun-thorpe couldn't agree on dollars - given Lewis still has time to run on his contract in the UK?

Now that pricey Hooper is confirmed, Welnix are probably reluctant to spend funds on a "nice to have", rather than "must have" player. Fair enough if so.

Wait til January, if he's still not in the fold I would expect him to be released by the club to save funds and redirect them towards another player if they can agree a mutual termination.

Gary (88 - two fat ladies) Hooper may supply the "Hooper Effect" for our forwards.

With the pressure off being the main scorers, Ball and McCowatt may relax more and score more.

Hopefully the "Hooper Effect" will give all the players around him more confidence.

When Rufer scores we will know it is working.

I'm surprised at the lack of press about hooper, maybe the club isn't bothering until after he world cup but normally when there's a big signing journalists go to training etc.

He did a press conference on Thursday which by all accounts was as well attended as any Phoenix press conference in recent memory, but he wasn't the chattiest player they've ever signed.

I doubt he's actually had a training with the team yet.

Besart Berisha has revealed that he receieved a bigger offer believed to be from Wellington Phoenix, compared to a modest wage within the salary cap at Western United, but that he just wants to enjoy his football and that it's not just about the money for him.
