However it’s a shame that the Vigil was not held at the Stadium then given all attendees free admission to the game 

Attendance at the Basin, reported at 11,000. A tribute/vigil at the Stadium, followed by the game would have been a great opportunity for Wellingtonians to commiserate the loss of our country men, women and children, then demonstrate that our city goes on with grief, whilst acknowledging one of our darkest days as a nation.

Not to mention it was always a dangerous tackle with how high his foot was and studs up, if Rufer did not move that could have been nasty

I think it was right that the vigil WCC organised was a standalone event, not tied into some other event.

No, if the vigil was held at the stadium then they would need to cancel the game. It wouldn't be right or make any sense to tie them together.

First one has no evidence to overturn the free kick decision. Second one is a yellow, which I'd believed the VAR couldn't get involved in.

I don't think there's anything wrong with booing an ex player, especially one you were very attached to who left the club. Remember the chant 'Smeltzy, what's the score' in that thumping of GCU??

Stuff like this adds colour to a game and if it helps to make an opposition player play poorly...why not!

I didn't mind the booing, it was the idiot who kept blowing their whistle that kept coming through on the TV that did my head in!

Roly knows we as a fan base generally love him, thats why were gutted he left and that's why we boo when he returns.

When he took a corner and the "Who are ya?" went out, he started laughing  which was good. He knows most of us still like him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the difference between Vinnie and Roly is that Vinnie was let go after a career as a loyal club man, whereas Roly gave off the impression that he was too good for us and stopped trying in his last season or two with us.

it was his wife who wanted to leave. She thought Wellington was too small and quiet, plus wasn't a fan of seismic activity either. I always got the feeling Roly would've stayed if it wasn't for that. He got along with the squad really well and if I recall correctly he actually said he wouldn't leave until we won something. I know he didn't stick to that, but I reckon he mightve if his wife didn't want to move

I have absolutely nothing against Roly. Booing him is fudgeing stupid; especially on a day like that where everyone is mourning. Whoever did it should've got a slap. 

Saying he "didn't try" in his last season is a load of crap; sure, he didn't play well - but no one did.

I remember booing Jade North for a stupid dive at his own 16m box, that was funny.

Remember all the people saying "but where will the goals come from", haha, we've just scored 11 goals in 2 games!

Vinnie was limited, but not sharke. Can't fault his attitude - the NIX could have used more players like him over the last few years.

I think there's a difference between booing and having banter, ie "Who are ya" to Roly and "Smeltzy, what's the score".

Booing decisions or certain controversial plays is fine. But booing players or teams just for walking out or passing the ball is pretty dickish.

At the warriors game on Saturday afternoon, the fans seemed to give a polite golf clap when the Bulldogs ran out. I wondered if it was related to the different atmosphere at this weekends games. I actually quite liked it. 

Sorry but I disagree. Booing an ex player is standard practice and very few exceptions are made for loyal/club men (eg Vinnie Lia).

for crying out loud it’s part of the culture of football. Pros are not shrinking violets; can’t imagine any would get upset about a bit of booing from supporters of a previous club. They understand it’s not vicious or represents hatred. More PC gone mad.

'PC gone mad' - alright mate, jog on. We just don't think Bonevacia in particular deserves the treatment, and it's a bit fudgeing stupid doing it when football is completely secondary at the moment.

Nobody is proposing governing when people can and can't boo at games, they are saying they don't think Roly should have booed.

There's many examples from overseas of when a player leaves & plays against them but isn't booed, and is in fact welcomed back. Similarly there's many cases where a player declined to celebrate after scoring against a former club. Nobody governs that, and it's not 'PC gone mad', it's respect.

Love this logic. Brings up the fact that everyone is in mourning after the tragic, violent events of Friday and then proceeds to suggest violence towards those that booed Roly.

No because of his long association with the club. But if they did he is smart enough to detect the almost certain emotion underpinning any booing that may occur and would immediately understand that no offence was intended . . . my guess is that he would crack a smile. To me it’s friggin obvious that the booing of Roly Bonnevacia was underpinned by a very different emotion to that which for example might underpin the noise supporters make when an opponent commits an horrendous foul on a member of the home team.

Sorry but they are nothing alike. Asking Smeltz what the score was and it being said in jest. Is nothing like the booing at Roly nearly every time he touched the ball none of which sounded much like it was being done in jest.

Thanks, I was not aware of that part of the story. Lots of WAGs seem to have a problem living in Wellington. No wonder Roly seemed unenthusiastic with that going on.

If you think the booing was bad you wanna hear the amount of shark the guy behind me in the zone was talking. If you were a couple of rows behind the drums you’d know what I was talking about.
