Edge has made some favourable comments abut the NIX and in the Stuff article, Callum did not rule it out, although he is off to Europe to try his luck first.

Yipe may even be a fledging bromance now between Edge and Rudan.

Any improving relationship between Ole/Wests/ES and the Nix, can only be good for NZ football.

Meanwhile, Stuff understands the Phoenix have expressed interest in signing New Zealand under-20 captain Joe Bell for next season. The young midfielder came through the Phoenix academy system but left for the University of Virginia after failing to win an A-League contract.

Big call coming down here and losing his amateur status and therefore college eligibility if he is still studying (haven't read the article, not working for me)

Assuming that what the article says about Rudan wanting Krishna to be a marquee, I wonder whether the offer the club has given Roy is indeed a marquee wage. Of course Rudan's family is the biggest factor in terms of him staying, but the club being ambitious was something he keeps saying too. I really hope we aren't going to keep spending minimum cap with no marquee, otherwise we won't be keeping anyone - players or Rudan.

Would think we need to sort the license stuff out before he considers coming back, I don't think someone would bail on a US College Scholarship for a 1 year deal.

In the stuff article he seems to want to stay, says he likes the city, the league, and doesn't feel homesick although his girlfriend did her ACL playing for Oriental Rongotai.

I see Williams has come out and said he won't sign until he knows who's boss next season.  Fair enough, really hope this report clears up the future of the club and the club provide Rudan with what he's after.

Given retaining Rudan is going to revolve around getting his family over here perhaps the only marquee talk should be around the size of the one we give them to live in.

I think people need to start preparing for Rudan to be gone and some players to follow them. I know I'm going to enjoy the rest of this season while we've still got them!

Enforce the contract- the reason the club doesn't invest more? Because they get screwed over time and again. We aren't the West Melbourne development club.

Dont you mean prepare to get shafted yet again. We seem to continually leave some of this stuff till the last moment.

Yep i to will enjoy the rest of the season but will still be thoroughly PO if Rudan walks away after all his words.Would love it if someone in football enforced a contract just once.

If you don't believe the club/WelNix are doing all they can, short of enforcing the contract at the moment, then you're kidding yourself. I can't speak for forcing the contract but there sometimes things more than money when it comes to jobs.

Risk of enforcing a contract, particularly with your manager, is things may not go so well next season if he'd rather Be somewhere else.

Then when you try to get rid, he might raise the whole enforce-the-contract thing, which could get expensive.

Yeh, it's an angry reaction.

Napier was talking about him sitting out a year. For a guy who has talked about professionalism a lot, breaking your contract and taking players with you, damaging your former team seems to be not anywhere near professional.

If Rudan was to leave, I'm sure WelNix would require a payment from WU to release him early (may even be a set amount in his existing deal?). That is more likely that than him being put on gardening leave for a year.

We need a coach who is going to stick with us. And be good. Frustrating to have to start again. Frustrating to have funded West-wtf-evers coach and player development.

You realise that at this point everything is speculation?

This all hinges on our license. If that's sorted, it becomes a lot easier to give Rudan and the players what they want. Until that time, we only exist for next season and I don't blame the coach and players for putting themselves first.

Pretty sure it's hard to move teenagers anywhere; they have their groups of friends pretty firmly entrenched by that point. If they were older or younger it's different.

Things, your father is a professional coach. The chances of him staying put for more than a couple of seasons at a time are slim.
And surely the transition from Aus to NZ is as soft as it gets?

Well if he's good 4,5,6 years a possibility. And that must have been our hope- lock in the culture and gains and usher in our most settled post-Ricki period.

But the kids don't choose their fathers profession, so to say they should accept it as part of the job is short-sighted. Dealing with a dad who does shift work and works nights is very different to, hey team, daddies got a new job that may last a year, maybe more so lets pack up everything and go.

If he takes the WU job, his family probably have to move anyway. Dealing with 90 mins flights each way would be a terrible daily commute.

Getting things back on topic, I posted a list of off contract players here the other day http://yellowfever.co.nz/posts/1284498 Is there anyone people want us to target for next season?

With Dura getting another year older, picking up another experienced CB would be nice but the only realistic one would be Tratt and that ship has probably sailed now. I wouldn't risk De Vere with his injury issues. I would be tempted by Mileusnic as a Burns replacement (ideally I want us to pick up McCowatt but its unlikely) and Brattan would also be a quality pick up.

Good for you.

Also; if he lives in Melbourne and they stay in Sydney - a 90 min domestic flight is far easier than a 3-4 hour international one, especially considering he would have games against the Jets/Sydney/WSW/CCM where he'd be in NSW

Sydney based teenagers would consider moving to Melbourne a drag, unless they are early hipsters.  If they were told to move to Wellington instead, they would think they were banished to Siberia.  New Zealand suffers from a long term bad press among Aussies. Those Sydneysiders who made the move find that - after the initial adjustment - it is much better than expected.  That was certainly my experience.

Absolutely I'd have Barbarouses back, provided Rudan was still at the helm. Kosta's season with us was sharkhouse I know, but you can't ignore his form from the last two years. As you say it's all hypothetical anyway because his partner isn't keen on Wellington and as we all remember that's why he left after only one year. But his improvement in this season alone has been phenomenal, and if there was a chance of him coming back I would take it. In saying that, there really isn't a chance. But still, I rate the guy
