From Selwyn United's Facebook page - posted late this afternoon.

Announcement: New Director of Football SUFC — Oct 12, 2018

We are excited to announce our new Director of Football is one of our own, Chris Brown.

Chris has been an integral part of Selwyn United for a number of years. In that time he has worked closely with Lee Padmore to develop our playing model, a first team capable of achieving and maintaining Mainland Premier League status and build the quality of our talent centre. The board had little hesitation in appointing Chris as our new Director of Football. He knows the club well, it's philosophy, its people and its aspirations. It is a natural fit.

The role of Director of Football now entirely focuses on our high-performance pathway. The role will work alongside a new Community / Football Development Officer who will oversee our participation pathway.

Brief Bio

Chris has a wealth of experience when it comes to coaching football. Having completed his BSc (Hons) in Sports Coaching at Leeds Metropolitan University in 2010, he travelled to America where he coached a wide variety of youth players over the course of two summers. After returning from America, Chris was an academy coach at Histon FC and also head coach of their U16 academy side.

After a season at Histon Chris accepted a new full-time, high-performance coaching role at the Burnley academy in Perth, Australia. From Australia, Chris travelled to New Zealand where he continued his high-performance coaching role under the Burnley academy at Waimak United FC and Selwyn United FC (2014-2016). From 2017 onwards, Chris was offered a full time “Head of Talent” role at Selwyn United, where he has played an integral part in establishing an in-house talent centre and also helping achieve MPL promotion with the first team, in partnership with Lee Padmore.

Throughout 2018, Chris has helped retain the MPL status of the first team by ensuring the relegation battle was won, maintaining the quality of coaching throughout the talent centre and working towards achieving his OFC ‘B’ license all in the space of a year. Chris aspires to make a start on his OFC ‘A’ license in the near future while stepping up to the role of ‘Director of Football’ at Selwyn United.

The Waimakariri United AFC Board are excited to announce the appointment of Bradley Eiffe to the position of Waimakariri United AFC Senior Men’s Head Coach. Bradley has been appointed to a 3 years term as the board want to look to provide a high degree of continuity and stability as we look to push for promotion into Mainland Footballs Premier League competition as well as establishing ourselves as one of the desired clubs to play for in the Mainland region.

In 2018 Bradley completed a successful campaign with the Waimakariri United AFC reserve team finishing 2nd to Halswell United. In the recent Coastal Spirit U19 tournament held over labour weekend he successfully lead the team to a creditable 3rd place finish. Brad has also held coaching positions with Forrestfield United who play in the Western Australian State League. Bradley has also played top level football for over a decade with non-league and Midland Combination league clubs in the United Kingdom as well as in Australia in the Western Australian State League.

We believe that Bradleys appointment will support the club in finally reaching its potential in the senior men’s football landscape. The board will be working hard behind the scenes with Bradley to develop a plan which sees the club reach its goal of promotion into the Mainland Premier League men’s competition.

Regards,

Board of Trustees

Posted on Coastal Spirits facebook yesterday:

We are delighted to announce that we have secured Ekow Quainoo as our Men’s Premier Coach for the next 2 seasons.
Ekow has put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2020 season.
Over the last 3 years Ekow has taken Coastal from being a mid-table team to challenging for trophies. The steady improvement has seen the team finish in the top 3 each season, including 2nd place in 2018. The team have also reached English Cup Finals and retained the Hurley Shield for the last 2 seasons. We are excited for the 2019 season!
Staff and player announcements to come
.

One point for other train spotters Coastal have not retained the Hurley Shield for the last two season - they have ended the last two seasons with the shield, in 2018 they lost the shield to Ferrymead Bays in the third challenge 0 - 1. Bays then defended the shield three times before going down to Coastal 1 - 0 with Coastal then winning the final two challenges before the Southern League took place.

"Reasonably big local name"- huge contradiction here. Kind of like the time Chch Utd promised players they would be an A-League club by 2018! Absolute farce of a senior club out at Yaldhurst

Have you employed an administrator yet to prevent the senior teams keep fielding ineligible players (both 1st and reserves have been caught in the last 2 seasons!)

As a founding member of this thread, which is also the most popular on the website, I just need to confirm something. Is this:

a) a place to share all sorts of football gossip, which may spoil another club's big announcement, or

b) a place to talk about soft sh!t and wait for the club to announce it.

Either way, massive signing by Chch Utd, and surprising to see him go for it.

Let me know what you think.

Plenty of chatter at English Park this afternoon about this from personnal attach to both clubs that announcement will be that the Rams have signed Danny Halligan as head coach so if true Bays will be looking for a coach for next season and also chatter that maybe a player or two on the move as well to Yaldhurst Road.

From what I hear AW a lot more than a player or 2 - more like 1/2 his 2018 Bays squad & approaching players from other clubs too.

The transfer scenario from 2019 on has changed. In the past players were still tied to a club at the end of the season and other clubs asked for a transfer of a player in the next year. From now under Comet all players in NZ clubs are terminated on the 31 October (in each season). Then any player can register with a new club from 1 November of a season. The only exception is to red flag players in Comet who owe monies or gear etc (they will not be able register elsewhere until the red flag is sorted). This now puts the onus on each club to identify any players who owe monies, gear etc and red flag them on or before 31 Oct. This applies to Juniors and Seniors.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick message to let you know that the club are looking to recruit new coaches for the remainder of 2018 and for 2019 due to our increasing player numbers.

These are paid roles for our Youth/Development/Academy/Reserve teams, ages u6 to u19, which run Monday-Saturday throughout the year.

A great option for students to earn some extra cash over the Summer break and also for coaches wishing to develop their skills & experience as the club have always supported with the undertaking of coaching badges - Junior/Senior/Goalkeeper.

Interested? Contact Colin Williamson:- [email protected]

No, but The Rams club are starting a South Island League for their women’s team, the Ewes. Apparently a lot of planning has been discussed and interested parties to date include Otago Uni Womens Halls of Residence (late kick OFF’s only), ex Parklands WPDL players (experienced in leapfrogging processes), anyone who has ever repped for Western WPL, “the McMann Group”, and the Cardrona Ski Resort Futsal Rovers (except when it’s a powder day). Can’t wait.

Odd first post, but Bays can't really complain.

They were a bit of a nothing club until about 2003/2004 then when they got promoted they started poaching players from other established clubs. Off the top of my head they took guys like Siggy, Dean Hutchinson, Colin Evans, Michael Lilley, Glen Collins and a few other national league players.

Also did it at junior level too.

Just a thought on this, pretty sure every club I ever played at you had to resign before the AGM from the club to avoid being liable for next years subs, so that makes your status on Comet irrelevant in regard to being "free" to join any other club. I guess one possibility  is for a club each year to red flag every player who hasn't resigned?

And tieing it in with the mighty Rams quest for glory, if Bays are going to lose a hatful of players they should enforce the "resign before the AGM" rule then call a special GM, set the first team subs at say $2k and recoup that from the Rams.

I'm not even on the Bays board but that's a mighty fine piece of thinking, tear it to shreds everyone :)

I watched Coastal play Chch Utd yesterday. 3 30's, lots of changes, lots of new faces for us. Not sure whoever is paying the bills at Utd is going to be getting value for money as the mercenaries that have arrived in Yaldhurst didn't look that flash.

Coastal won 3-1 in the end, were 1-0 down when we got there.

Western lost to our reserve team 1-0 in the Waimak tournament.
